FOUR-STAR DEFENSIVE TACKLE JARQUEZ CARTER COMMITS TO OHIO STATE

CARTER BRINGS STRONG PRESENCE TO OSU'S INTERIOR DEFENSIVE LINE

Per 247Sports' composite rankings, Carter is considered the No. 395 overall prospect and the No. 42 defensive lineman in the 2025 class.

At 6-foot-2 and 284 pounds, defensive tackle is likely where Carter will play at the collegiate level.

“I see myself moving around the whole line, kind of like an Aaron Donald type,” Carter said. “I’d say my get-off and how I use my hands (makes me dominant on the field).”

Last season, Carter recorded 67 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, nine sacks and 15 quarterback hurries while leading Newberry High School (Newberry, Florida) to a 9-3 record. As a sophomore, Carter totaled 78 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, eight quarterback hits, two pass breakups and a forced fumble.

“I’d say I’m a pass-rush first type of guy,” Carter said in November. “I get off the ball really fast and use violent hands. I’m not going to stop until the play is over with.”

When Carter arrives at OSU, he'll likely need a season or two to adjust to the collegiate game before becoming a consistent figure in Johnson's defensive line rotation. But he has the tools to become a future key contributor on the Buckeyes' defense.

Mobile and GIFs suck on my phone, so here is this still image for now of the celebration. BOOOOOOMMMM! Big ol DT from Florida with a disruptive first step that legit every school wanted. Yes. Please. And thank you. Welcome aboard big fella!

Edit: Here we go with the actual GIF. It is my new favorite for big commitments. Carter has an insanely explosive first step, he is violent against blockers in all the right ways, and really athletic for his size. Needs some weight redistribution and target weight, but that is practically every DL recruit from top to bottom. Long story short, he is going to be an issue (for other teams) if he applies himself. Stoked for this commitment.

Copying this over from my post in the game day visitors thread since it is recruiting related…

Also, those worried about Carter, he has said recently that he is “just being a kid” and having fun taking the visits and watching games for free. Hasn’t missed a Buckeyes game yet and often rewatches them to see what the DL is doing and how they’re operating. Said he’s going for LJ and that’s not changing.

"It's close to home and fits my style of play," Carter said. "I like how everybody matches my style of play, like Justin Scott. The get-off, the hands. Reuben Bain, too. You watch their film and you watch my film it's just alike."
The top 100 Buckeye pledge has long built a relationship with Scott, the top 100 recruit from the 2024 class that Miami ended up flipping from Ohio State.
"Me and Justin always in communication, he was my host for the official visit (in the summer)," Carter said. "We were just talking after the game, too...he's just a big bro."
Also impressed with the overall aggression from Miami's defense this season and on Saturday, UM will have staying power in this race leading up to a potential final decision on December 4.
While Tennessee, Florida, Colorado and others continue to push Carter, he said the only other trip on his radar going forward is returning to Columbus for the Michigan matchup November 30.
The Newberry (Fla.) High School star will sign just four days later, citing consistency and development as his primary factors in picking a program
