I've read from some people that they're worried about his 40 time being 4.9... Just look at his film, I don't even care what the 40 time was, he's in the backfield the minute the ball is snapped causing massive amounts of pain

First step is decent, 10 yard burst looks pretty good, but his 40 is 4.92 laser and he's only 6'2, 221. He doesn't look overly long but plays with a nasty edge. It's hard to project where he'll end up because he doesn't appear to have the athleticism we look for in an OLB, and I'm not sure his frame would support much more than 240-250 as a DE. With where we're at with Parsons, I've got my doubts this is an OFFER. The way I see it, this guy could end up bringing something similar to what Thad Gibson brought on the field, but you have to pass on those type of players when you've got Bosa-caliber guys lining up to join the program.

All that said, as a football player, I love what he brings to the table. His effort and willingness to do whatever it takes to make a play makes him easy to pull for. Interested to see how this one shakes out.

Agree with everything! Moves more like an MLB right now plus we have Gant as an OLB in this class. Looks like a MLB or WDE all the way to me. With Parsons and Smith likely in he'll probably start out at LB and then see where the staff projects him at when he gets here. Really hope this helps with Campbell, he's filthy!

4.92 isn't a huge deal in a vacuum (Cox ran 4.95), but when you're below average size and you test average or below average in all the main physical evals, people are going to question upside. That said, the kid is an awesome high school DE with great stats and a bunch of heart. Sometimes those players end up being superstars.

Guys like that don't even know how to properly run, nor know about the technique it takes to do so. Watching him play, I guarantee his 10 split will be really good. He looks similar to Shazier when he was a prep.

Awesome commit and I think Chatfield fits well for a variety of reasons. First, I think you get a blitz specialist at bare minimum that can put his hand in the dirt but is more adept in a stand-up rush technique imo. Cox and Parsons (hopefully) are both certainly good at pass rushing, but are going to be solid against the run. To this end, I would not rule Andrew out as splitting time with the LB group...I think the Thad Gibson comparisons are good in terms of how he can be utilized. Second, the kid is just a player. If you watch the film, he makes play after play. There is much discussion on measurables and I get that. However, sometimes you just have a square peg that you think is going into a round hole and he works out...there is plenty of examples of success at the college level in that category. Carl Lawson comes to mind, but you can also look at Tyquan Lewis on our own roster as an example of a guy with similar measurables that has absolutely torn it up here. Third (and similar to second), you know if the staff views him as a "TAKE" in this class, he is a stud. Only the elite of the elite are getting in this year. However, he is far from a diamond in the rough...kid had offers from LSU (who was pursuing hard on him), Oklahoma, ND, Oregon, Tennessee, Michigan St., etc. I am curious why there was no push from the Florida schools...curious if he made it clear he wanted to leave the state or if it was something else. Nonetheless, plenty of others saw what we saw in him. Finally, you would have to think this helps us a lot with Tyson Campbell...Miami and LSU are the big contenders for him but we have been trending recently. This commit will certainly help bring him in and I personally think Campbell might be the best DB in the country...he is at least in the same breath as Surtain and Cook in my books.

As for what this means for the DL class as a whole, I will venture over to the general thread because all I want to say in Andrew's thread is this: Welcome aboard Mr. Chatfield!
