FL ATH James Wilder, Jr. (Florida State signee)

Interesting story... but pushing an officer that was "attempting to arrest his girlfriend" ... sounds like there might be a tiny bit more to the story? Or at least a reasonable cause (protecting your special lady)...

Sources tell Tomahawk Nation that Wilder allegedly grabbed his girlfriend away from the deputy as he was trying to arrest her and then allegedly slapped the deputy's hand. The deputy was unharmed.

Man, dumb situation. Protecting his girlfriend may certainly be a mitigating factor, but it's still never okay to interfere with an arrest or touch an officer. Even if you feel it's being done wrongfully, you take it up with them afterwards. I always view this kind of thing the same way I view your rights on an airplane: just do what they say, and if you have a problem with it, take it up with the proper authorities later. They're in a high-stress position, they don't know who you are or what you might do, and they aren't going to take any risks - zero tolerance.

All in all, shouldn't be anything serious. As long as there isn't more to the story than is being reported, I can't see anything newsworthy coming from this.

And you know he's going to get an earful from his teammates for the part where it says he "slapped" his hand. How chivalrous!

I wonder if he'll miss any games though, or is this not a big enough offense? Battery on an officer(among other charges) is nothing to sneeze at. I don't know the whole legal process, and how favorable his charges may be since he plays for FSU

I think they said both charges (resisting was the other) were both felonies... I'm hoping felony convictions still get you a game or two south of I-70

Usually in these situations, people end up pleaing down to a misdemeanor of disorderly conduct.

I'm not sure on the specifics of Wilder's case though.

Oh if only Ubet was here to help us out.

Free Gator!!!

Agreed though that the plea will likely get these reduced.

Kid's wasting his talent on RB IMO. An above average RB, but an elite LB/DE.

Nail hit right on the heAd 4yrs ago. This kid is now a UDFA after being a top 10 talent coming out of HS. He's a 4-5th string RB for the Bengals. Could've developed into a terror at OLB, but could've would've should've. It's crazy how recruiting goes to how kids mature(or don't) when they get to the college level.
