Final Four: Memphis 78, UCLA 63 (Final)

Nah, that was against Memphis State. I hope we never change our name to just "Ohio". That could get confusing.

I liked watching this team (Memphis) last year, and thought that if any team was going to beat us then, it was to be them, and not who we might have met in the finals.

anyway, this team is special, and a treat to watch...

I don't like that newish golden C on the jersey for the opposing team either...

anyway, I'll enjoy watching this match up!

Andy Allison has a hand in all aspects of the Memphis basketball program, as well as designs on guiding his own program.

For every Dean Smith, Roy Williams and Thad Matta, there are at least a dozen more obscure support staffers toiling long hours to make their bosses -- and their college basketball programs -- look good.
As a trusted right-hand man for Memphis coach John Calipari, Andy Allison doesn't seem a bit concerned by his lack of stature. The 1995 Ready High School graduate is far too busy with minute details in preparation for the Tigers' NCAA Final Four game against UCLA on Saturday in San Antonio.

He's Ben there, hasn't done that: With loss, Howland will be unfairly judged

SAN ANTONIO -- Ben Howland has a problem.

I'm not sure if he should blame John Wooden or himself for this problem. But really, the responsible party doesn't matter. All that matters is a problem exists, and it's not going away unless UCLA beats Memphis on Saturday and then beats North Carolina or Kansas on Monday to win the national title.

Do that, and it's all good.

Fall short of that, and it's all gonna turn around.

Contd...

I had UCLA winning the championship in my bracket, and Memphis falling to Texas in the Elite Eight. However, right now Memphis is looking like dumb version of the Florida Gators' mini dynasty with all those long arms waving in opponent's faces on defense. This game is the classic matchup of brains vs. braun.

Look for Love to somewhat neutralize Dorsey's athleticism with his big butt in the low post and screening him to open driving lanes in the halfcourt. The baseball pass won't be that effective the way Memphis recovers in transition defense. So there goes a little of UCLA's offensive efficiency.

On defense, the Bruins should give Westbrook the assignment of Rose. Collison is too scrawny to handle him. He should guard Anderson or even limit his minutes a bit, in spite of Darren being a key player. The Bruins can funnel Tigers toward help on defense. Also, sag and force Memphis to shoot jumpers all day.

Expect this to be a low scoring affair, although not to the extent it was between these two teams in '06. The Bruins have onions!, when it's winning time. The Tigers have propensity to miss free throws. UCLA in a nip and tuck affair.

Billy Packer needs to hang it up. He called Luc Richard Mbah a Moute "A Moute" and Lorenzo Mata-Real "Real". These are significant players who have been a team that's gone the Final 4 for 3 straight years, he really ought to know how to say their surnames.
