I had never played FIFA Ultimate Team before last week. Now I'm fucking addicted. :shake:

It's a lot of fun. Haven't had the chance to really get into it yet since the market prices are ridiculously high, but I'm going to be playing it quite a bit here soon.

I got overzealous with auctions for a while and now have a lot of players without contracts and very little money left to buy packs and do other things. Fortunately I've found a way to pimp the system a little bit to make some extra coins. Slowly but surely I'm building up a war chest. It's consuming a lot of time and attention though.

Game is awesome, especially when you play with custom tactics and sliders. Playing the computer is actually enjoyable!

Still not enough fouls called though, hopefully they can address that. Manager made is a notch better than last year for sure, much mor enjoyable.

Pro Clubs is frustrating for two reasons: 1) the ref calls are so horribly inconsistent. And 2) the CPU player (when not playing 11v11) are horrendous.

Both of these issues need to be fixed, and the game mode would be an absolute blast!

I can explain the ones I play:

Career Mode - Manager: It's like Franchise Mode in Madden.

Career Mode - Player:
You can take on an existing player or create one of your own. You play as that player up thru retirement, and then in retirement you can become a manager. I created a player who 17 year-old in MLS, trying to work his way up to the EPL. The cool thing is that you can play controlling just that player, so instead of constantly switching to the player that has the ball, you're moving your player into space and making runs.

Ultimate Team: It's a trading card/fantasy team mode. You collect virtual player cards and those are the players that play for your club. Your team's ability to play well is enhanced by shared attributes, such as common club, country, league or preferred formation. When you play games or fulfill challenges, you earn coins that you can use to buy new packs of cards or to buy single cards by auction. I think it's rather complicated to get the hang of, but building a team from scratch is rather addictive.

So can someone explain to me the game modes?

Offline:

Tournament-Play as a team and make your way through a tourney on any difficulty setting.

Be A Pro: Player- Same as last year

Be A Pro: Goalkeeper- Same as last year (only difference for both Be A Pro modes is your pro doesn't carry over to Online modes)

Career Mode- Same as last year

Xbox Live:
Pro Clubs Seasons- New "Be A Pro" game mode which places you on a club of your choice and you compete against other user clubs. If you don't have enough users to fulfill the 11 starting positions, CPU players will be put in place (and they fucking suck). You can choose any team (for their kit and crest). You can also unlock classic kits and different style boots, soccer balls, and attributes under EA FC (will explain further down).

Online Friendlies- Same as last year

Custom Head to Head matches- Unranked, and same as last year.

Head-to-Head Seasons- Which is now referred to as simply "Seasons" is virtually the same as last year.

Ultimate Team- Same as last year, with a different layout.

Hit the jackpot on Ultimate team, saved up for some silver backs and received a gem.

Got some rare silver pacey Brazilian leftback who sells for 50k+.

Needless to say I paid for an overpriced Balotelli at 43k.

Still had enough left over to make a Ghana, Nigeria, and U.S. national team.

If only my internet here wouldn't lag so often...

There are cards that sell at auction for less than their quick sale value. I buy them up and discard them for a small profit. It takes a lot of time to make it worthwhile, but it turns out that I spend most of my waking hours dicking around on a computer, so it works for me.

While the margins are small, the return is guaranteed so there's no risk. I bid cards up to the highest amount that I can bid while still making a small profit, and try to do the highest volume I can. I spend everything I have on this, and can turn it over in 20-30 mins. and do it all again. The more I do it, the more cards I can buy the next round, and it just keeps expanding. You'll get outbid 20-35% of the time, by people who don't know the value or who genuinely want the card for their team, but if you bid right up to the edge the other people who know the value will leave it alone because bidding another 50 coins results in a loss rather than a profit. When you get outbid, you get the coins back and you just turn it right around on a bid on another card.

I've gone from less than 1000 coins a couple days ago to about 15,000 by doing this.

My team so far is a Spurs-Crew-USA kind of thing, based around Friedel, Marshall, Sandro, Bradley, Cherundolo & Altidore.

My team is cheap, incomplete and not very good yet. I didn't have the good fortune you had in the packs I've opened so far. I got my manager tasks gold pack, and the best card in the damn pack was Benoit Assou-Ekotto. I love me some Disco Benny, but that was a shit pack. I've had to get creative and grind out some coins to make up for my bad luck.

I haven't gotten much of anything out of packs. My best player pulled being a Vincent Kompany (which got me around 60k), other than that, I've gotten jack shit.

This game is awesome.

I picked it up and found out my Manager Mode would freeze anytime I tried to load it, after creating about three different Manager Modes. I had invisible players and substitution info that was also a glitch but since the patch I haven't had any issues. I was pretty pissed about Manager Mode so I didn't play in protest for a while. However, my favorite mode is Player Mode and I am very pleased with the upgrades to the mode. I created a German CAM who plays for Borussia Dortmund, but being loaned out the first season really makes the game believable. I was loaned to VfR Aalen, and helped the squad crush the league while winning the golden boot over my team's striker by one goal. I have played a good number of games for BVB and just got my first call up to Die Manschaft, which we crushed Finland where I had a goal and assist. My player is only a 77 overall, but he's only 19. You can tell where my player is slower, not as finessed and generally less talented than the other players, but I've gotten a lot of first team time and am improving steadily.

I always enjoyed Campus Legend/Road to Glory on NCdubs and am thrilled they've reformed Player Mode this year. It is a bit of a grind, but it's rewarding. Last year player mode was fun, but nothing like this in terms of refinement, enjoyment and development.

The addition of the International aspect had me amped before the release and it was exactly what they needed in this game. My friend and I had always talked in the past about how we wanted to Manage a team in the Euro or World Cup and play as a player on a national squad and that is exactly what EA delivered this year.

While I have had some issues, as many people have, this game is another incredible installment in the FIFA series.

I've been playing as a created player in Career Mode as well. I'm also a CAM, but I'm American and started myself out at Columbus. I think listing you for a loan right away is pretty much an automatic thing for this mode, and it didn't make as much sense in my case since I started off as one of the top-5 players on the team. It was also weird - being loan listed with the MLS calendar - since my player was doing well I was absolutely inundated with transfer and loan offers throughout the season, during the summer window. Had offers from some pretty big clubs like Inter, Barca, Liverpool & PSG. That seemed a bit unrealistic for a 17 year-old with a half a season in the MLS, so I turned them all down. We were top of the league anyway and I wanted to win some hardware. The Crew steamrolled the league and the playoffs to lift the cup. I got my share of goals, but I focused more on getting assists and led the league in that category.

I'm on my second season now, and I wanted to take a more realistic step so I agreed to a loan deal with Nottingham Forest during the winter window. When I came aboard they were second place, and after taking maximum points in my first eight matches we are now at the top of the table. After a successful loan spell I might look to sign permanently with a bigger club in Europe.

I like in this mode that you have to play the manager's tactics and not your own. I wish though that before making a move to another team you could see what that manager favors. I've had to adapt at Forest to play more of a RCM role - a bit more defensive responsibility and I don't get to play as centrally. Unless I force the issue, for half the match my player is relegated to the top half of the screen, which I'm not usually comfortable with.

I did get a callup for the USMNT - had a hat trick on my debut. That was odd, since my player is more of a table-setter than a scorer at this stage. Got in to a couple more games, but haven't been called back into camp since, which is kinda odd. The players that have been getting called in for the US have me scratching my head - a ton of players that not only don't get called up IRL, but guys I've never heard of at all. Weird.
