Game Thread Fiesta Bowl 2016 - tOSU vs Notre Dame, Friday 1/1 @ 1pET, ESPN

Can someone with Notre Dame knowledge break down what these losses mean? Are these players good, do they have replacements, how would their players compare to a player on Ohio State's defense, whatever, etc
That means they're down essentially their entire secondary.

You'd mentioned tanner how you don't see ND playing power on us but that's what they are on offense. Very similar to us on offense but just not quite as smashmouth. Still a physical football team and I'm not saying we can't stop them because we can but it's no secret that running QBs and running down hill on our defense has been successfully this year on our defense

DEPLETED NOTRE DAME SECONDARY PUTS ONUS ON OHIO STATE PASSING GAME IN FIESTA BOWL

Ohio State offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Ed Warinner sees the Buckeye offense peaking at the right time heading into its Fiesta Bowl matchup with Notre Dame.

"I think we are getting better and better. I still saw improvement throughout this bowl preparation," Warinner said Tuesday. "I saw us bounce back and play really well against our rival and we’ll try and keep that momentum going."

The unit got an added boost Tuesday, even though it had nothing to do with Ohio State's team.

Irish head coach Brian Kelly announced at practice a pair of starting defensive backs will miss the Fiesta Bowl, one of whom was already filling in for an injured KeiVarae Russell at cornerback.

Junior Devin Butler is out with a fractured bone in his foot and starting junior safety Max Redfield also won't play after violating a team rule. That's three starting-caliber secondary members out against Ohio State, which means the door for the Buckeye passing attack is open in earnest.

"They’ve had a couple injuries in their secondary, but they’ve always had a good recruiting class and their coaches are going to prepare them," Ohio State wide receiver Michael Thomas said Tuesday. "They’re going to give us their best shot and we’re going to give them our best shot."

I watched the 2006 game on Monday night. Over time I forget how frustrating Tresselball could be. We had that ND team totally outclassed, yet didn't put them away until the late Pittman run. Smith also made a clutch 3rd and 11 completion to Gonzales inside of 3 minutes that we desperately needed.

Yep. That's what I remember about the game--that we totally dominated them, but they hung around and were in the game very late. That game felt like 45-10, yet late in the game we were only winning 27-20.

Shortly after it was revealed the Fiesta Bowl would pit Ohio State against Notre Dame, Buckeyes star running back Ezekiel Elliott sent out a tweet to Fighting Irish standout linebacker Jaylon Smith.

“See you New Years brother,” Elliott’s tweet read.

Not long after, Smith responded: “Let’s put on a show brodie.”
