On a semi-related note, my dad had a similar moment with me this past weekend.

He called me up, all excited because he found of DVD copy of "CannonBall Run" on sale. I had no idea what that was or who was in it. He fussed at me for 2 minutes and then handed the phone to my mom and had to walk away. Poor guy!

I'm not that old, but I remember watching Cannonball Run as a kid. *adds to Netflix queue*

This makes me wonder if I can get my parents to part with their two sets of Britannica encyclopedias. I'd love to have them just for their collection value. One is from 1987 and I remember using it for a lot of junior high and high school reports. The other set is from the 1950s--I want to say 1954. Certainly would like to have that collection in my library.
The one thing I like about old encyclopedia sets, and you can't really get this anywhere on the Internet, is that you have 10-12 pages on each country as it existed THEN. It's fascinating to look at a map of Europe or the Middle East in a 60 year old Britannica set. To read about the U.S.S.R. without having it shaped by things that would happen 40 years later.

That's about the only reason I haven't put them in the driveway for a yard sale since Wikipedia was invented.

Earlier this year, I went to an Alice in Chains concert here in Salem. While I was at a Dutch Bros. earlier in the day, I told the coffee "dude" that I was going to this concert. He and the young lady working there had never heard of Alice in Chains. The guy at the other drive in window had, and he and I started up a conversation. I hollered to him about the last time I saw AiC was in 1993 during Lollapalooza (which received even more odd stares at such a strange name). I then quickly added, "and that was when these guys were how old?". The girl was 3 and the guy was 5.

Right on about feeling old, bgrad.

Cry me a river. When I first started teaching I had my students interview their parents on the day JFK was assassinated. I had to stop when the interview had to be their grandparents. This year I stopped asking my students to write about 9/11.
