Adam Homan, Coldwater: Linebacker leads Cavaliers in tackles and earned Midwest Athletic Conference defensive player of the year honors. Ohio State recruit will likely play fullback for Buckeyes.

I went to the Coldwater game and I was fairly impressed with Homan. He is a tough headhunter and he absolutely KILLED Alter's QB on one play. He showed sure hands catching a few balls and blocked well on pass plays. He is definetly a FB at the next level though but he should be a good one.

I'd like to see Homan get a shot at TE, or, if he keeps eating and lifting, perhaps develop into a Joel Penton type on the DL. Either way, he can sure hustle and hit for his size, I was much more impressed with him this year against Alter than last.

Genoa had two players split Northwest District Player of the Year honors in Division IV.
The Comets' Ryan Bless shared Lineman of the Year with Coldwater's Brock Pleiman, while Genoa's Marcus Vicars and Adam Homan (Coldwater) shared Defensive Player of the Year status.

TROY - Grind it out, grind it out and grind it out.

OSU is home away from home for Homan family
Adam graduates from high school early to join his brother, Ross, and rest of Buckeyes.

It's almost like the Homan family car is equipped with brains.

When Dave and Alice Homan climb aboard, the vehicle knows exactly what to do.

"We just put our car in drive and it goes to Columbus," Alice said.

The Coldwater couple will be in Columbus today, Feb. 4, for a 4 p.m. news conference at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, watching their son, Adam, slip on jersey No. 49 and sign his national letter of intent to play football for Ohio State University.

The 6-foot-3, 237 pounder graduated early from Coldwater High School and enrolled for winter quarter at OSU, where his brother, Ross, is already entrenched as a starting linebacker preparing for his junior season this fall.

"It's a breathtaking experience being here this year, already working out with the team and you're getting to know guys that you've looked up to and have been watching on television the last couple of years," Adam said. "It's really kind of surreal.

"Making it official, obviously, it's a big day. The feeling's really great to get it done with. Even with starting classes early, this is always the day you look forward to."

Although Adam played fullback and linebacker for the Coldwater Cavaliers, he'll begin his Buckeyes career as a fullback, blocking for quarterback Terrelle Pryor and tailbacks Daniel "Boom" Herron and Brandon "Zoom" Saine.

"I'm comfortable with that," Adam said. "I told the coaches it's up to them, wherever they felt more comfortable with me and however I can contribute. Either way, I'm comfortable in my surroundings and feel it's a position I can play.

"You've got to be hard-nosed and tough, be willing to stick your nose in there. I always think of the 'Iso (isolation) read' with the fullback and linebacker meeting at the line of scrimmage. It's a very physical position, but that just comes with the territory."

I wonder what position he plays at his size. He's a little taller than your typical fullback. Can he play TE or DE?

I'm not ruling out playing the LEO spot...

I hope you're right, I just don't see it. Adam has the tenacity and the smarts, but he lacks (IMO) the nose for the ball and lateral speed to play LB at this level. I know that FB is where recruiting services tend to throw the "tweeners" but I really think it's for him. I also love the depth chart at FB. We need more Mercer County kids on the field.

Fickell On Adam Homan

Adam Homan was officially recruited by Ohio State as a fullback but starred on the defensive side of the ball as well at linebacker for Coldwater.

Here are a few leftover comments from OSU linebackers coach Luke Fickell from signing day on the possibility of Homan joining his older brother Ross on defense: "He is a bigger, physical guy and is instinctive," said Fickell. "If you have those instincts and those kinds of things you'll play more as a linebacker than a fullback."

Fickell commented on how OSU gets players on campus and tests them out at different positions despite which position they were recruited.

"I think you give kids chances to play where they want to play," he said. "There are some (defensive backs) that want to come in and play wideout, for example, and it is a hard part of the recruiting process. Some of these kids get tied up into what they want to play and that is part of the recruiting process.

"We don't ever tell them. We just kind of let them pick and choose and when they get here they figure themselves out. "If you're going to be a fullback, you might as well try linebacker as well."

Homan, of course, is the younger brother OSU linebacker Ross Homan who saw significant playing time as a freshman but took a medical redshirt as a sophomore.
As a senior, Homan had 113 tackles and had 40 carries for 260 yards and six touchdowns while also tallying 10 receptions."Hopefully, (Adam) has a lot of the instincts his brother has and we'll see about that this spring," said Fickell. "That is the nice thing about being here in the spring is you can experiment with some things. It makes jumping off of offense over to defense not as hard to do."

Profile by Vico at ourhonordefend.com

With a brother currently enrolled at Ohio State and Adam the product of an Ohio high school program playing at a dynastic level, his path to Ohio State was all but certain. His journey to Ohio State started in earnest when he enrolled in a summer camp at Ohio State fresh off his sophomore academic year. In that aforementioned article, Adam let it be known that he was really close to his brother, was really grateful that he had the opportunity to watch him play at that National Championship Game that shall not be further discussed1, and, most importantly in terms of recruitment, he aspired to play for Ohio State. By that time, Doc Tressel was already interested in the younger Homan, having invited Adam to the Bowling Green game in 2006 and communicated with his Coldwater HS coach by that same time too.

Football: FB Adam Homan unites with LB brother, Ross

Adam Homan was excited to be a Buckeye.

Homan, the younger brother of current Ohio State linebacker Ross Homan, verbally committed to Ohio State in December 2007, just a week after being offered a scholarship by the Buckeyes.

"Ohio State was always the number one school for me," Homan said. "I've always been a true Ohio State fan."

Adam has already enrolled at OSU, and will be with the team for spring practice.

"The transition from high school to college has been extremely smooth," Homan said. "I am really enjoying the campus and the jump I am getting on academics as well as football."

Homan was rated the No. 10 fullback in the nation and the No. 34 player in Ohio by rivals.com. With fullbacks often charged to take on linebackers, Adam may be running into a familiar face this spring.

"I don't expect [Ross] to take it easy on me now that I'm here," Homan said. "Nor would he expect me to be intimidated to go up against him."

With the graduation of Brandon Smith, the starting fullback for the Buckeyes last season, playing time will be available in the backfield.

"How [Adam] performs in spring and fall practice may determine playing time," said Kevin Noon, publisher of Buckeyegrove.com. "He might be one of those players that will be a week-to-week redshirt."
