Former Premier League Champ
Class will be announced at 2:30 on Saturday, January 31st. Finalists are as follows:

Cris Carter
Dermontti Dawson
Richard Dent
Russ Grimm
Bob Hayes (Senior)
Claude Humphrey (Senior)
Cortez Kennedy
Bob Keuchenberg
Randall McDaniel
John Randle
Andre Reed
Shannon Sharpe
Bruce Smith
Paul Tagliabue
Derrick Thomas
Ralph Wilson
Rod Woodson

Discuss. My predicition is Smith, Woodson, Carter, and Humphrey will get in for sure. Perhaps a perpetual finalist like Dent, Keuchenburg, or Grimm might have a shot. Ozzie Newsome had to wait for the 3rd ballot, so I'm guessing Sharpe will have to wait at least a year. It would be nice of Wilson got in while he was still alive to enjoy it, but I don't see he or Tags getting in this year. Could be the year for Derrick Thomas, especially on the wake of an inferior LB like Tippett getting in last year. Randall McDaniel absolutely deserves entry, but I'd guess it will take half a dozen or so ballots for it to happen. Only guy I see I really think has no business on the list is Cortez Kennedy.

In addition to the guys you mentioned, I also believe that Tagliabue has a pretty good shot of getting in. He really kept the ball rolling after Rozelle left. Hard for me to believe that "Bullet" Bob Hayes is not in the Hall. During his playing days, it was one of the most feared WRs in the league.

I have listened to the Browns' beat writer Toni Gross discuss Hall of Fame nominations and you cannot believe the amount of politicking that goes on in the room when they discuss the nominees. He has said that Art Modell will only get into the Hall over his dead body. Modell has been a finalist a couple times but didn't even make the list this year. I guess that's the price you pay when you are a greedy son of a bitch.

Modell has no shot, nor should he. Some of the owners in the Hall shouldn't even be there. But if you look at guys like Wellington Mara or Dan Rooney, Art Modell's name doesn't even belong in the same zip code.

As for the politicing, I think that's exactly the reason Tags will NOT get in for a while. The media hates him, always hated him, and still hate him...and they're the ones that vote. Rozelle took a long time to get in...I bet they make Tags wait at least that long.

Those are my gut-reaction guys that should get in. Obviously there are some guys listed whose qualifications for whom I cannot attest.

If it took Ozzie a couple years to get in, I just cannot see Sharpe going in on his first year. Maybe it's just because I don't particularly care for him but I also think that guys like Dent and Grimm might not be glamour boys but they were outstanding football players.

Class is:

Ralph Wilson Jr.
Bruce Smith
Rod Woodson
Randall McDaniel
Bob Hayes
Derrick Thomas

No Carter ,which is the only one that surprised and disappointed me. Anyone whining about Sharpe missing on his first ballot must have forgotten he couldn't block his sister.

They must be knocking Carter because he didn't make it to the Super Bowl. Heck, Monk was a Super Bowl champion and they kept him out for a while. Man they must not care to much about WR stats. I know if Jerry Rice doesn't make it next year, the Hall of Fame voters lose all credibility. Of course Rice will be in, but Carter was a remarkable receiver. Best of luck to him next year.

The voters have not been kind to WRs in general. Only one, Largent has made it in on the first ballot, and I imagine they will put Rice in next year, and are waiting to put the other WRs in at the same time or afterwards. But Carter, Andre Reed, and Tim Brown (eligible next year) will probably get in either 2010 with Rice, or more likely 2011 after him.

Carter is 2nd all time in touchdowns and he doesn't get in on his first two tries? What a [censored]ing sham...wow. Sham-wow...you following me camera guy?

Apparently someone said "If you can't vote for Carter in the next 20 minutes...because we can't do this forever..."
