When I get home I'm going to stop through a couple of U.S. cities w/my girlfriend and do some pretty heavy photography. She just likes going wherever, so it works out that I get to make all the travel plans.

Here are some of my favorite cities and I'll most likely be visiting 3-4 of them.

Santa Cruz, CA
Las Cruces, NM (strictly for photography)
Wilimington, NC
Bangor, ME
Charleston, SC
Portland, OR

Anyone else? Slow day...trying to kill some time.
 
Some great ones have been named. Others cities that I really like and that would make for some great photography:

Asheville, NC
Burlington, VT
Richmond, VA
Boston, MA
New Haven, CT (Yale)
Princeton, NJ (Princeton)
Ithaca, NY (including but not limited to Cornell)
Savannah, GA
Key West, FL
St. Augustine, FL
Washington, DC

I also think Philladelphia and Baltimore would be very photogenic cities, believe it or not. Some of the historical areas in those cities are really beautiful.

Nashville, TN is one of my favorite cities, but perhaps not what you're looking for in terms of a photography subject. I'm yet to visit, but I would assume New Orleans would have to be a top choice.

To me it depends... the NW Seattle and that area is spectacular. Go out to Olympic National Park, its beautiful. Hit up Denver CO and head out to Rocky Mountain National Park or any of the others. Moab UT, Bryce Canyon, Caynon lands, there are a shitton in that area.

I lived just south of the city and worked on Market Street for a couple of years. It's a great town and I really enjoyed my time there.

There is the tunnel mining industry. Let's not forget that.

CB6, are you trying to shoot the cities or the landscapes near them or all of the above... lots of good suggestions here if for different reasons... any place you're going to be near for any other reason... I mean, Bangor sounds great, but, I'd be hard pressed to randomly find myself "in the neighborhood"

AK...I am definitely looking to shoot both landscapes and city life. I use all of it in my photoshop projects. In particular, I'd like to get some really good, vast skylines and some local flavor. They don't have to be particularly large cities, but places with a strong culture and character about them. I like places that have some grit and old school feel as well.

Well, in my thought is that (and you have to realize I'm not good at staying in one place for very long on Vaca) but, I'd put togther something like Chicago/Milwaukee/Madison, or as Sepia threw in Ithaca, kind of a Buffalo/FingerLakes/Kingston and maybe all the way to Ottawa (your finger would get tired shooting that city, though not in America per se). Or more Sepia... Philly/Atlantic City and then down/around the Jersey Shore.

Just ideas. Probably not good ones.
