When I get home I'm going to stop through a couple of U.S. cities w/my girlfriend and do some pretty heavy photography. She just likes going wherever, so it works out that I get to make all the travel plans.

Here are some of my favorite cities and I'll most likely be visiting 3-4 of them.

Santa Cruz, CA
Las Cruces, NM (strictly for photography)
Wilimington, NC
Bangor, ME
Charleston, SC
Portland, OR

Anyone else? Slow day...trying to kill some time.

If you're going to make an PNW run, then I suggest you make it in September. No better time to see Portland/Seattle/Vancouver. Portland, to me, has a beautiful cityscape as it's got the Willamette running through it with I believe nine bridges, and it's built into a hillside.

The drive on Rt 1 from San Luis Obispo to Mendocino takes about 2 days and is worth every minute -- unless you have a daughter who gets car sick.

Also saw someone mention the Olympics -- as in mountains-- the rain forest is spectacular. IF the sun is out a sunset ride on the ferry from Bremerton to Seattle is memorable as is the ride from Port Angeles to Victoria, BC.

Little hiking trail called Danny's Creek leads you to a break in the mountains with Rainier filling the gap.

Also caught sunrise on the desert floot outside of Albequerque. Didn't have a camera with me, dammit.

That reminds me of when we were on a 4 year "excursion" with my father. We spent a lot of time on the central Cali coast, this picture is near Morro bay California, just north of San Luis Obispbo. Whenever I see these pictures from that era I remember the constant hunger and the lack of proper clothes. I'm the one on the far left, I was about 14 at the time

I absolutely loved my one day visit to NYC and have been itching to go back ever since to take in much more over a 3 or 4 day stay. Chicago is also another favorite. My trip to Dallas was pretty fun and I'd love to get back there. I didn't really get as excited for the 3 days we spent in San Antonio on that trip, but I think it probably deserves another chance.

The cities on my wish list are LA (hey, I get in to at least two of the SoCal parks for free, and probably know enough people to get into the rest for free as well ), San Francisco, Seattle, Denver/Aspen, and St. Louis.

LA is a crappy city to be a tourist in. I still can't figure out what tourists do there, Hollywood Blvd? Yikes.

If you go, have someone from LA show you stuff, otherwise the city is too big and spread out to be a good tourist experience. Living there, on the other hand, is great

Ahhh... someone has a problem with the mens-in-leather that come out at dusk.

No kidding. And, for the love of all that's holy, don't attempt to walk to USC campus.
