Comic book characters are very hard to cleanly classify in the hero or villain group because there are some that actually play multiple roles. Catwoman is a very "gray" character because she is Batman's adversary, although she has many qualities and moral standards that would qualify her as a hero. She also works with Batman against a greater evil on occasion. Mystique has also had periods where she teamed with the "good guys", but seems like she is more typically thought of as a villain than is Catwoman.
Like I said, I struggled with classifying some of the dark heros as well as some part time heroes and villains. Some even have reincarnations that are classified differently. I will include Catwoman on both lists...I figure that at least gives the person voting an option.
