A few I've been enjoying lately:

The Wailin' Jennys - just about everything--they're amazing, but especially One Voice, Heaven When You're Home, Apocalypse Lullaby, The Parting Glass
Antje Duvekot - Long Way
Vienna Teng - City Hall
The Weepies - Hideaway
Brandi Carlile - Have You Ever
Sia - Breathe Me
Regina Spektor - Fidelity
Ingrid Michaelson - The Way I Am
Meg Hutchinson - The Crossing

This friggin' song drives me crazy. They have it in Rock Band, the lyrics are ridiculous. The song makes me want to punch babies.

Janis Joplin - Me and Bobby McGee and Piece of my Heart
Heart - Crazy on You x2
Gwen Steffani - Don't Speak
Debbie Harry/Blondie

Gwen is damn good. A great performer.

Someone mentioned Etta James - she should certainly not be forgotten. She was hugely influential apart from being a brilliant vocalist.

Also, someone whose music I didn't particularly like, Cindi Lauper(sp?). I didn't like her genre of music that much, and not least because it tended to mask what was (and is I expect) obviously a great voice.

Another favorite of mine is What's Goin' On (I think that's the title) by Four Non Blondes. Probably because of a fantastic garage band singer I used to know who did an even better version of it... :pimp: ah, memories
