Good point. Maybe BB73 and I can get our wish, move Danielson into the booth with Nessler, pair Vermeil back with Musberger, and toss Greise to the curb. :wink2:

Vermeil was a great 'teaching' color guy, just like Danielson is today. You learn something about football everytime you watch a game they do, unlike guys like Greise and Fouts who are just filling broadcast space so there isn't dead air.

Al McGuire was my favorite of all time. Talk about a guy who just loved the game and those who played it.

Overall, I like announcers who don't get in the way of the game. If the focus is more on themselves and not on what is occurring on the field or court, then I don't want to hear them.

However, I did like Vince McMahon and Jesse Venture back on the old Saturday Night Main Event.

I don't think he's been mentioned yet, but Bob Costas was good at play-by-play.

Now about the only time we see him is an HBO talk shows, or doing the NBC studio host thing for the Olympics.

Drey - how about Bob Davie? I know he stunk as a coach, but I like the way he breaks down plays and players.

I know, it's funny when he reads promos (like a Duke/UNC basketball game or something) because it sounds like he has never heard of any of it before. He calls a great tennis match though.

Nobody mentioned Frank Gifford; but this was a "pretty entertaining" and popular team.
