I found myself wishing that my boy was old enough that I could use him as an excuse to go. Meh, I may try anyway. Legos and Buckeyes?!?! Add beer and it would be the trifecta of awesomeness. . .

Our 7 year old is a girl. Lots of cool stuff there. The Buckeye stuff I posted is nice but there is stuff there that will blow your mind. I only took a few more pics. My wife works for Nationwide. Took a pic of that...

My younger sister worked at CVS during college. Took a pic of that...

There were way more elaboate and impressive things than what I've posted.

Just pulled the trigger on a new lens for the ongoing migration season plus a two-week December trip to one of the premier birding spots in the entire country. Brace yourselves....bird pics are coming.

I'm debating if I should get the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8, the Lensbaby Edge 50/80, or both for my DC trip next month. I'm really missing a nice UWA to fit between my standard 18-70mm and my 8mm fisheye, and it would come in really handy inside the monuments in DC, especially with that faster aperture. On the other hand, I love the idea of all the creative stuff I could try with the Lensbaby optics. I'm leaning towards buying the Tokina and renting the Lensbaby, maybe renting both and seeing which one I really love and buying it.

What did you get?

Canon 100-400 L series ii. First l series lens I've gotten and probably more than I need, but I figure why not have an expensive toy while I continue to learn. I'm pretty stoked.

Plus with Edie's art, she needs better source material, so it's a business expense...which knocks a pretty healthy percentage off the cost.

So I've lived two lives... the one before PhotoMechanic and this new one after it. It may not be in the cards for many folks at $150 but holy crap is it fast. Gone are the days of slogging through Lightroom.

It's basically a crazy fast way to sort through your pictures and pick the best. It races through them at the speed of a cheetah, and zooms in immediately as well. Then you can go back to lightroom and do your tweaking.

@scarletmike, this has to be on your christmas list if you don't have it already.

Thanks for this recommendation. Slogging through my too large library in LR is the biggest hinderance I have. I'll definitely be taking a look at this.

EDIT: Yay, 30 day free trial. I'll be grabbing the trial just before I head to DC so I have it in a time that it would be most useful and gives me the most chance to use it.

Well, I didn't intend to, but I ended up buying the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 tonight (via BP's Amazon link, of course). My original plan was to rent it through LensRentals and then if it was a good copy do their "Keeper" thing, but their Keeper estimate was between just shy of buying new to $50 more, so I said screw it and bought it new.
