Great topic and great replies, hard to go wrong with any of them.

The Keith Byars run will always stick out in my mind. "Holy Buckeye" will live forever as will "4th and 14" and Cie's pressure on Dorsey. The MC strip of Taylor was also a great choice. I'll add a couple that haven't been mentioned that to me were huge and will always stick out.

Ray Griffin's INT at scUM in 1975 that led to the game winning TD.
Jim Laughlin's blocked punt and Todd Bell recovering it for a TD at scUM in 1979 to send the undefeated Buckeyes to the Rose Bowl ranked #1.
Art Schlichter's game winning TD run at scUM in 1981 with Vaughn Broadnax pretty much blocking the entire scUM defense to pave the way into the endzone for Art.

Call me "corny" but beating scUM AT scUM is a thing of beauty, and these three plays were three of the greatest that led to Buckeye victories in the Pig House.

Also, Eddie breaking the single game rushing record against a great Illinois defense. I believe they had Simeon Rice and Kevin Hardy on that team and Lou Tepper was still the coach. Very cold night game, the crowd chanting EDDIE EDDIE as he stood on the sidelines facing the Press Box side with his helmet off and arms in the air! My father and I went to this game and man I will never forget it! In fact I still have the ticket stub

Easy, i believe the first night game was against Pitt, I was at this game and I am almost sure this was the first one:

Sept. 14th 1985 Ohio State 10 vs Pittsburgh 7

So many great plays and favorites- many of which have been mentioned already. I don't think I can identify one play as my singular favorite all were great.

If though, as was originally asked, I need to identify one play or moment that DEFINES tOSU football, I have a very definite answer:

2002 Fiesta Bowl, final play-- Dorsey was sacked and we won and were celebrating--- but not the sack, or the win, or anything that happened within the whistles--- but rather a single act of sportmanship, after Dorsey was thrown to the ground and the ball fell incomplete, when before celebrating with his team, a lone OSU defender stands over a beaten and dejected Ken Dorsey and compliments him on a great effort and a great run as a QB.

That moment stands out as defining tOSU Football: it's traditions of winning and its tradition of having high caliber players who respect the game, respect the traditions, and (generally) respect good sportsmanship before, during, and after the game is played. This stands out especially when the whole nation has the image of MY program that they do, and yet I know better because I have seen the moments like this. This is why I bleed Scarlet and Grey!!!

My favorite was the catch Cris Carter made in the 1985 Citrus Bowl against BYU on the sidelines with one hand to wrap up a 10-7 Buckeye win. After that, Jenkins against Purdue would probably be my next favorite.

Kuddos to STEVE19 for bringing us this fine thread. All of the posts are great reads. But one that sticks out in my old & feeble mind is the one they called "A BLOCK PARTY IN ANN ARBOR." It was hard for me, back then to get excited over Ohio State Football, after what happened to "Woody" and the Fiasco created in the Gator Bowl game of 78. After he was fired and let go
the whole upcoming season would be hard to get a grasp on. We all thought "what can be OSU football without Woody'' Well we sure found out in a hurry going undefeated as we headed for the team up north. The thought of beating Scum in thier house and a possible run at another N/C would be too much for me to handle. But lo and behold we did it with a blocked punt and going into the end zone to seal a victory in the "PIG HOUSE". I can't remember the players name who blocked the punt but I remember it well. Of couse its overshawdoed now buy all the other greats in my mind but I just wondered if alot of you others rememered that one.

Kips, it was Jim Laughlin who blocked the punt and Todd Bell recovered it per Dubs post at the top of the page. I was in Japan at the time, and I missed the game, so we'll just have to take Dub's word for it. :biggrin:

These all work for me, Dubs.

I'll add Gamble's tackle from behind against Penn State, after Krenzel had fumbled at the goal line. That tackle, and his pick-six later, were the difference in that game.

And how about watching Terry Glenn burn ND in '95. This quote's from an ND write-up: "A simple Hoying pass to Terry Glenn on a curl route turned into an 82-yard touchdown. The receiver beat Irish cornerback Allen Rossum on the play, and then left the nationally-ranked sprinter in the dust in the race to the end zone." I can remember comparing my excitement during that play to sex.

For plays by an opponent, I'm fond of Lantry's FG miss in 1974, as it was kicked directly at me, and sent us to the Rose Bowl. :evil:

The blocked punt in the rain against #1 ranked Iowa in what, '85? That was awesome.
4th & 2 in the NC game.
Another NC game moment: the 4th & 14 from earlier in the game. Krenzel threw a perfect strike to Jenkins to move the chains. Awesome.

I was in Japan for the Byars out-of-his-shoe game against Illinois in 1984. But my trip was a vacation, while I think yours was a different type of 'tour', IIRC.
