...?

It's quite a sad day when Queensryche isn't considered '80's enough'.

And another thing... I do believe the title is 'favorite 80's songs'. Eh, whatever. Thanks for the -rep, and ummm... get hit by a bus?

I'm not going to scan the whole thread, but I'm with youon this one, Queensryche is totally 80's. Their last really good album was Empire and...well...their entire foundation is 80's based.

But they really weren't "80's music". They were rock/metal. The term "80's music" in my mind, encompasses the pop music genre of the time. Madonna, Human League, Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Huey Lewis & the News... etc.

Not Queensyche, Metallica, Slayer...

I understand your point...and when I hear 80's I think the same as you. However, technically the answer "Queensryche" is still valid though, unless the thread title was "Favorite 80's Pop Music"

Well, with all due respect, you've obviously got no idea what you're talking about. It's really insulting to say things like that.

To me, the 80's were all about flashy metal, long hairsprayed hair, wailing vocals, screaming guitar solos, and so on. Ratt, Cinderella, Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, et al. They certainly had their share of fans, and did their piece to mark that time period.

That doesn't mean I'm right, but certainly this genre was big in its time. I'm certainly not going to come into someone else's thread and tell you you're wrong, and tell you what the thread's about. It'd just make me look pompous.

There's no way that just one style of music can define an ENTIRE decade. The same thing could go with any generation of music. If I said the 90's reminded me of Soundgarden, Creed, Tool, Korn and Limp Bizkit, you could say NSync, Backstreet Boys, Tupac, Ice Cube, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson. Do these people define music in the 90's more or less than the other?

I have a lot of respect for what you bring to the boards around here, and I'm having trouble believing you can be this myopic.

I listened to hairband rock in the 80's, so that's what I think of.

I guess it really depends what you personally listened to back then.

I didn't listen to top 40 in the 80's. Every bit of was nails on a chalk board to me. With the exception of about 5 bands, the 80's was a wasted decade for music.

souL, I concede your point on bands like Poison, Motley Crue and Ratt. The hairbands of the decade certainly were a part of 80's pop culture. Its just when I hear someone say "80's music", they aren't what comes to mind. The term generates images and memories of radio stations playing atrocious, over produced, orchestrated crap. The "Big 80's" thing. Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Thompson Twins, The Bangles. Stuff like that.
