Favor to Ask: Take Bible Trivia Quiz

Ok, I just took the 20-question quiz (I'm assuming that's yours buckeyegrad). Same result as the last one.

"Your overall score was: 100%"

I had to think for a minute on #16. Then it occurred to me that Paul addressed prophecy in the spiritual gifts section in chapters 12-14. That was a tricky one. Good quiz.

You got 100%!?! That is impressive as you are the first person to do so. Like I said, I know I would have missed 2-3 questions, my brother-in-law would have missed at least 1 of them, and even my father-in-law, the minister missed one.

Question 20: Who was the first Gentile baptized into the faith of Jesus' followers?

As you could see by my answer, I knew the story...couldn't remember the name. I felt like an idiot when I got the PM with the answer...haha.

All right, you get 85% since you had everything right about the guy except his name.

Thanks to everyone for taking a couple of minutes to answer the quiz. This will be helpful as my father-in-law was depressed to see his congregation only get a 52% average on it (mind you, it was slightly more difficult than this one and we told people to tell us you don't know instead of guessing at the multiple choice).

I scored a 20% on the 20 question one(don't remember what it was called). I don't believe in a higher power/religion. I've only been in a church one time in my life. And that was for a wedding.

I scored a 20% while trying to get every question wrong.

There was one other question that I had to think about for a bit. You asked something like "which of the following does not describe Melchizedek?" and your list included Priest, King, Judge, and Patriarch. I answered "Patriarch" because obviously he couldn't be that since he had no children. But I also thought the "Judge" reference was questionable. I have since examined the relevant passages (Gen. 14, Psalm 110, Hebrews 5-7) but I cannot find any reference to Melchizedek as a judge. Perhaps you might want to change the wording in that question.

The other one you might think about is the question about who wrote Hebrews. While the author is unknown, the King James Version says "The Epistle of St. Paul to the Hebrews" or something like that. So if a person has read only the KJV, they will get the question wrong. Just a little food for thought. :)

I had to go back to our minister's teaching for this one. I've listened to his entire sermon on Melchizedek and he states that he was a judge because "he was involved in defeating the enemies of that day". I guess this is applying the concept of a Judge as would be found in people like Gideon, Deborah, Samson, etc. If you are interested in a better explanation, I'll ask him for something more concrete than this.

If you are interested in hearing the teaching go to:

Play the November 12, 2005 teaching, which starts around the 8:00 minute of the track.

Despite the KJV (which is not the best translation of the ancient texts), I'll stand by this one as the Pauline authorship is disputed and the letter does not specificially state it as such. Personally, I favor the idea of Paul as the author, but I think there are sound reasons to argue for Barnabas as well.

Some scholars have also suggested that Apollos might be the author of Hebrews. As you study his life and his influence in the early church it is easy to see that he had the knowledge, relationships and influence to pen the Epistle of Hebrews.

I Cor.1:12 - "some say I am of Paul, and I of Apollos, and I of Cephas and I of Christ."

Pretty good company if you ask me :-)

I think Luther argued for an Apollos authorship.
