COLUMBUS, Ohio ? It was an early-morning wakeup call for Ohio State players Thursday, as the Buckeyes hit the practice field for the first time this fall.

Head coach Urban Meyer had his group out there by 5:45 a.m., and there will be a freshmen-only practice later in the day.

A handful of players spoke to the media after this morning?s practice. That group included quarterback Braxton Miller, tailback Carlos Hyde, defensive tackle Garrett Goebel and cornerback Bradley Roby.

The first day of training camp is only half over for Ohio State.

But the veterans have already been in and out of practice after arriving early for a 6 a.m. workout.

After it was over, a handful of returners met with the media for the first time since the official start of the season for the Buckeyes. A full story will be up later this afternoon on the leadership Braxton Miller is trying to establish as he heads into his sophomore campaign as the face of the offense, and until then, enjoy these appetizers from the morning.

Hah , one of the guys on Scout ate his dinner at 3:45 and was demanding his update :)

Just got back to start processing them. Only guys not out there were Curtis Grant and Verlon Reed from what I saw. Possibly Pat Elflein.

who is 85 in red in those pictures josh?


Also great to hear that Meyers singled out Jamal Marcus as a guy who flashed today.

Also to hear that Spence and Washington were dominant in pass rushing 1 on 1 made me think of just how good this defense will be right now and especially once these young guys get a year or two in the system.
