Practice No. 2: Notes, quotes and observations
August, 6, 2012
By Austin Ward | ESPN.com
The entire team was together for the first time in training camp, and Urban Meyer called them all into an early huddle to deliver a message.
In a calm, clear voice, the new Ohio State coach expressed his expectation from the squad in what was the second workout for all of them but first as an entire unit.
There is going to be a bar to clear or a request to be filled for every snap, every drill, every period. And then it's up to the Buckeyes to exceed the minimum -- with "Plus Two" serving as the theme on a scorching Monday afternoon on the practice fields.
"Our whole thing is if we ask you to go 10, go 12," Meyer said after the workout. "If we ask go six, go eight. You hear the whistle blow, you don?t anticipate. A lot of times you see teams play slow because they anticipate a whistle. We want to run through the whistle for two steps.
"It?s all two steps. Keep going two steps. I?ve had some teams play like that, and this team right now doesn?t play like that."

HorseshoeFetish;2190897; said:I get that Marotti's training program is something awesome. Looking through that slideshow last night I didn't see a single picture of a fat guy. In the spring game guys still had some circumference. In these still shots they look like they bypassed football shape and went directly to wrestling shape. I'm sorry if asking the one person that I know was there if the actual real life 3D version of this team looks as good as the stills is creepy to you.

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? It was only one day of practice.
A lot is going to change before things kick off on Sept. 1, but we now have a better idea of what the Ohio State coaches are thinking about a few different spots in the two-deep.
Here is a look at our estimation of the depth chart after watching Monday?s practice.

Looking at Monday?s Depth Chart: Defense
By Brandon Castel
COLUMBUS, Ohio ? The Buckeyes should be loaded on defense for the 2012 season, and it all starts up front with John Simon and Johnathan Hankins.
They were joined by Michael Bennett on the first-team defensive line Monday and the group looks to be one of the more formidable units in the Big Ten.

Fall Practice Insider: Defense Looks Strong Up Front
By Brandon Castel
COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Urban Meyer is hoping his defense won?t look quite as good this fall as it did in the spring.
That?s not because he expects the group to suffer under defensive coordinator Luke Fickell this fall. Instead, Meyer is hoping his offense will look a little more polished against Fickell?s defense as the start of the season draws near.

Fall Practice Insider: Meyer Pleasantly Surprised by Offense
By Tony Gerdeman
COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Monday marked the second practice of the season, but the first full team practice for the Buckeyes as the freshmen practiced away from the rest of the team last Friday.
After the practice, Urban Meyer said "I was hoping to see what I saw on offense," indicating that he thought things went pretty well. It may have been the first overly positive thing that he has said about the Buckeye offense as a whole since his arrival.

By Brandon Castel
COLUMBUS, Ohio ? As the protection broke down around him, Braxton Miller scrambled to his right, looking for somewhere to throw the football.
It looked like Miller was going to take a sack during Ohio State?s second day of fall practice, but that?s when he spotted someone running open down the middle of the field. As he has done before, Miller heaved the ball off his back foot and into the arms of No. 11, Jake Stoneburner, who took off down the middle of the defense for a big gain.
