There are also physical locks on those doors, which security has access to. Yesterday didn't "shut down" the facility. I know first hand.

And that also assumes no one was physically inside the building.

I realize with the Rona and all that, people are working from home more than ever, but you still need someone inside in case you need to shut things down in a hurry due to power or a chilled water leak from the AC or something that could cause a huge issue in any data center.

The DNS was dead because they weren't routing the DNS traffic. Something - probably an automated BGP routing statement update - took all of their BGP routing statements out. I saw a video from a network showing the routes disappearing :slappy:

Having been on both sides of this type of thing, while it's funny because it's Facebook, I do feel for the poor bastard who put this in and has to explain why it went the way it did.
