Yikes! Somebody misunderstood my post. The point was that it is insensitive to compare anything other than genocide to the Holocaust, even when done in intentional hyperbole--regardless of what day on the calendar. I only pointed out the date as a saw several examples on a day of official remembrance when I had not seen it before.

Jason Medley, of Houston, filed a defamation lawsuit in June against three of his daughter's classmates. The classmates were accused of filming themselves making false sexual remarks about his daughter and posting the video to Facebook.
The complaint was settled months later with apologies from the girls and a small donation to charity, Medley's attorney Robert Naudin said.
"The girls involved likely now understand the wrongful nature of what they did and the harm that can come of such conduct," he said. "They made a donation out of their allowances to a charitable organization that fights against cyberbullying."

"Intentional infliction of emotional distress" and "defamation" were both actionable causes of action long before Facebook was popular, and nothing about the passage of time has changed the appropriateness or applicability of those two causes of action.

If some A-holes lie about you in a published media for the sole purpose of hurting you, that is a situation that the law has thought about and addressed in thousands of previous cases. The fact that somebody decided enough is enough - some idiots cannot ruin my child's life without consequences and filed a lawsuit - well, that is a good thing. Used to be the harm was limited to somebody calling you a name on a playground. Now, with Social Media, things can go viral, and the false words can be published to a broad audience, including hundreds of Facebook friends that also involve adults, neighbors, relatives and teachers.

(And no, I'm not saying Jake was not suggesting otherwise, I just was using his post to make the point. )

Some of my lady friends crack me up. I've got the mom that had the fucked up childhood who lives vicariously through her children. The other day she posted that her son went to school despite having the flu because he didn't want to miss his chemistry class that day. Then i have the overweight woman that's always posting the "it's okay to be fat, like and share if you think (beached whale in a bikini) is beautiful and then there's the Hispanic woman who posts a picture of her ten year old daughter in booty shorts, boots and her shirt tied up so it shows her belly saying how sexy she is. It reminded me of that scene from Borat. "This is my daughter, she win trophy for number 1 child prostitute, we so proud!".

Any mother who tries to make her prepubescent daughter appear "sexy" should be turned in to CPS...

It's pretty much the norm in there culture. Many of them just have no sense of decency. I remember I once was invited to a baptism, I wore a suit and everyone else's idea of dressing up was dressing up like they were going out to a nightclub.
