F DeShaun "The Diesel" Thomas (Panathinaikos - Greece)

Welcome to the Buckeye Family DeShaun!! :oh::io:

There is certainly a ton of "hype" around Thomas and their has been comparisons to Lebron and Durant, lets just remember he has 3 more years of HS and he will obviously need to continue to develop to be talked about in that class of players.

Matta continues to get basically every prospect he wants and goes after full force except for Morgan. It is unbelievable.

Luers freshmen phenom picks Ohio State

By Steve Warden

The Journal Gazette

DeShaun Thomas, Bishop Luers? 6-foot-7 freshman phenomenon who led the SAC in scoring and rebounding this past season, has made an oral commitment to attend Ohio State, beginning with the 2010-11 season.
Averaging 28.9 points and 13.3 rebounds for Luers last year, Thomas was widely considered among the top freshmen in the nation last season.

Thomas said he informed Matta of his decision Wednesday.
I'm comfortable with it, Thomas said. It was my decision. I like it down there (in Columbus, Ohio), and Thad Matta, he's a nice guy.
He had been watching me, and he had faith in me and that I could make it. He said he would help me and he would do anything. And I said, Cool.

NewsCenter confirmed with Thomas on Friday evening that a commitment had been made to OSU head coach Thad Matta. Thomas says the academics and Matta were the two selling points in his decision and that there was no need to look at anymore schools.

Thomas may be the best of the 2010 class

Recently, Ft. Wayne (Ind.) Bishop Luers forward DeShaun Thomas made an unofficial visit to Ohio State. The trip got us thinking: who's next?

When it comes to the Class of 2010, Thomas has the early inside track on being "That Guy". An incredible physical specimen, Thomas turned in a huge high school season and has been ripping through the 15-and-under AAU circuit. A man amongst boys in that age group, Scout.com considers Thomas the top 2010 prospect in America.

Why are we talking about young guys so much before the summer officially begins? Because they're making headlines. At least six members of the class have made college decisions already. Most recently, Columbus (Ohio) native Jared Sullinger opted to commit to the hometown Buckeyes. By the way, Sullinger is a legitimate beast!

I think Lebron was closer to 6'5" than he was to 6'3".

Lebron played more of a guard role as a freshman too, where as DeShaun appears to play more in the post(again, this is only based on a few youtube clips, so it could be inaccurate).

As a native of Fort Wayne, I can vouch that this kid is the REAL DEAL. He made all state honors as a FRESHMAN, and I believe was 3rd in the state in scoring. I saw him play a couple times during the bball season and he was a man among boys, even against players 2-3 years older. I look forward to watching this kid dominate HS ball for the next 3 years. Maybe unwarranted just yet, but he's drawing comparisons to LeBron and Oden already. He could be one of the best player's our state has ever seen. Matta seems to be doing a great job of pulling our state's best over across our eastern border. I'm just disappointed he didn't stay in state and go to my Boilers! Just my 2 cents.

Saturday, June 2, 2007 7:29 AM
By Bob Baptist

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Thad Matta is wasting no time assembling another top-10-ranked recruiting class.
The Ohio State men's basketball coach, with top-10 classes headed his way this year and in 2008, received his second commitment for the class of 2010 Thursday night from 6-foot-8 forward DeShaun Thomas of Fort Wayne, Ind.
Chris Johnson, Ohio editor for the Hoop Scoop recruiting service, said the commitment was confirmed to him yesterday by James Blackmon, Thomas' coach at Bishop Luers High School. Blackmon did not return a message from The Dispatch seeking comment.

I keep having to remind myself that this is not like getting one of the top 3 players a few years ago. Those guys were jumping to the NBA as lottery picks. We are now recruiting lottery picks.

Somebody pinch me.
