anyone else hear anything about him wavering?
I don't know where you have seen that. In fact, there was a little bit of chatter in this thread a couple weeks ago about him coming to a attend a Columbus public high school next year but there is no verification of that.

I think he was referring to the article and quote in the Indy Star blog.
Kyle Neddenriep tossed out this butter bomb that begs for better backing:

Thomas wavering?: Oral commitments are never set in stone, but Deshaun Thomas' pledge to Ohio State seems to be about as solid as hot butter. Thomas says he's still committed to the Buckeyes, but the word around Conseco Fieldhouse Saturday is it's not a done deal.

I guess I must've missed that article:lol: Personally, that is the first that I have ever heard of him wavering and our guys usually are right on top of things. I guess we all have to remember who wrote the article and what city that newspaper is located. Until I hear a direct quote from DeShawn, I will relax:)

Relaxing. Always a good idea.

I too think its wishful thinking based on "fan speculation" rather than anything coming from DeShawn himself, or even his camp.

A much more believable rumor is that he'll be joining Sully and Weatherspoon at Northland next season, though that's far from concrete yet. What a powerhouse they would be with their young emerging guards and then a front line of Sully, Spoon and DeShawn. WOW!! Maybe Sibert should relocate and join them - if he wants a h.s. championship!

That starting 5 would be "sick"

Thomas

Bishop Luers junior Deshaun Thomas got the second-most votes in his second straight appearance on The Associated Press All-State basketball first team Wednesday.

The 6-foot-7 Ohio State recruit led the state in scoring at 30.3 points, was second in rebounding at 15.1 and led Luers to a repeat Class 2A state championship.

Thomas also made the 2009 Parade magazine All-American fourth team this week.

?It is good making all these teams. It is a great experience,? said Thomas, who will play in NBA Top 100 camp June 17 to 21 at the University of Virginia. ?I didn?t know (the All-American award) was coming. It feels great making my dreams come true.?

Bishop Luers junior sets records, eyes even more
By Nick West
of The News-Sentinel

Deshaun Thomas
Career points: 2,254 (77 games), 11th all-time in Indiana

All-time scoring records broken in 2008-09: Bishop Luers, Summit Athletic Conference, Allen County boys, northeast Indiana boys

Records on the horizon: Allen County all-time (Megan King, Canterbury, -399), northeast Indiana all-time (Shanna Zolman, Warsaw, -832), state (Damon Bailey, Bedford North Lawrence, -881)

Deshaun Thomas accomplished feats this season that no other area high school boys basketball player has ever achieved during a four- year career. Thomas, a junior at Bishop Luers, has also done it in far less time.

He became the all-time scoring leader for his school, the Summit Athletic Conference, and boys luminary in Allen County and northeast Indiana in 26 games this season.

?It means a lot to me to put Fort Wayne on the map,? Thomas said. ?I?m glad I got that stuff out of the way and the pressure, too. Everybody was saying, ?You?re going to break this record, you?re going to break that record.? So I got it out of the way and I?m happy for myself, happy for my teammates and happy for my coach.?

The 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward scored 817 points (30.3 per game) this season and has accumulated 2,254 in 77 career games. He led Bishop Luers to its second straight Class 2A state championship, feats the school never reached until Thomas enrolled. It is for these successes that Thomas is The News-Sentinel?s Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Ok, reading the updates, albeit after a few adult beverages, (I've read the whole thread over the years) I wonder what type of offensive game Thomas has. Thomas is obviously talented, but I guess my question, to those who know more than I (that would cover the vast majority of posters on BP :tongue2:) is what type of offensive skills does the young man have, I understand he is a good outside shooter, not Reddick like yet, but pretty solid for a HSer, specially a 6'7" one, but where and how does he score most of his points? I also understand he is pretty good off the dribble, but does he simply take advantage of a height and weight differential and post up smaller guys, or does he have a pretty advanced mid-range game? Michael Redd had a fine career at tOSU, but took off in the NBA when he developed his mid-range game. The mid-range game is also what makes ET so hard to defend and gives Buford so much potential. Also Daquan Cook had the reputation of having a very good mid-range game, which is part of what made him so highly rated. I just wonder whether DT's game is college ready, by being diverse and hard to defend anywhere and everywhere, or will he have a good sized adjustment to get used to guys as big and quick as him?
