i think if sully goes thomas will go...if he had to make a decision by today i think he leaves...so by the deadline i think its pretty much 50/5o...alot of people are looking too much into his defense which is dumb because if defense mattered in the NBA then aaron craft would be the #1 pick overall...he will more then likely go late first overall but with good workouts for teams he could be a mid first round pick based soley on his ability to score and shoot...i for one hope if he leaves early the cavs can get him...i hope he stays but unless sullinger is coming back then i think he leaves

Thomas can't guard faster players on the perimeter and he can't guard guys on the block. That's for guys in college. It's a big problem at the next level regardless of your perception of defense in the NBA.

As for the Craft comment, that's just ignorant.

Outside the lines

Todd Hensley, Thomas? mentor in his hometown of Fort Wayne, Ind., said last week that how Thomas played in the Final Four probably would weigh heavily in his decision whether to enter the NBA draft because he is rated a late-first- to early-second-round pick. How Thomas played against Kansas, then, would seem to bode well for him returning for his junior season, becoming the Buckeyes? top scoring option, further developing his game and perhaps playing himself into the lottery in 2013. But other forces are working on him. First, Hensley is not the only confidant in Thomas? ear. Second, Thomas became a father recently. Third, his late-season run seems to have convinced him he?s ready for the NBA. Whose advice will he heed: those who agree with him or those taking a more rational, long-term view? He could go either way.

I thought Thomas did a heck of a job in the first half when he wasn't in foul trouble guarding T-Rob. There's not many people in college basketball that can guard Robinson, dude's a beast. I thought his defensive ability was vastly improved by the end of the season.

No, he didn't. Kansas' guards just didn't give T-Rob the ball enough in the first half. DT was getting pushed around a lot on the block - moreso even than when Draymond Green was posting him up.

Is Deshaun Thomas the next Buckeye to go to the NBA?
By Michael Periatt

Published: Wednesday, April 4, 2012

With Jared Sullinger heading to the NBA, all focus turns to Deshaun Thomas.

The former sophomore forward who elevated his play during Ohio State?s postseason run to the Final Four has to make his own decision about whether to return to school.

Thomas averaged 19.2 points per game in the NCAA Tournament, and at times was OSU?s most lethal scoring threat.

His performances have given him the opportunity to look into going to the NBA.

After OSU lost against Kansas in the Final Four and the season officially ended, Thomas said he hadn?t made a decision yet, but he didn?t discount going to the next level.

?Whatever happens for me, happens for me,? Thomas said. ?If something good happens, I?ll look into it and go from there.?

When the basketball team returned from the Final Four Sunday, the team was greeted with a rally at the Schottenstein Center. Thomas was the last player to leave the rally and blew a kiss to the crowd before he left.

Underclassmen have until April 10 to make their decision regarding the draft according to the NCAA, and no date has been set for Thomas to make his official decision.

Wednesday, Thomas appeared to address his upcoming choice from his Twitter account, @DT1UpNComin.

?Got time,? the tweet read.

Coach Thad Matta said Wednesday that he is still gathering information for Thomas so he can better understand what to expect if he decides to declare.

?I?m in the process right now of trying to get as much information as I can for him in terms of talking with teams,? Matta said. ?I want to give him all the information so he can make the best decision he possibly can.

Thomas to Return for Junior Season in 2012-13
The 6-7 forward averaged 15.9 points, 5.4 rebounds as a sophomore

COLUMBUS, Ohio--Deshaun Thomas, a sophomore forward on the Ohio State men’s basketball team, will return for his junior season, Thad Matta, head coach of the Buckeyes, announced Friday.

“Deshaun, his family and our coaching staff have spent the last week evaluating his future,” Matta said. Deshaun determined he wants to remain a Buckeye. We are looking forward to building on the success our team enjoyed in 2011-12 with Deshaun playing a significant role next year.”

Thomas hopes to help the Buckeyes toward a goal of a fourth-consecutive Big Ten title next season.

“We have a great team returning next season and I want to be a part of another championship run,” Thomas said. “My family, my coaches and I looked at my future as a professional but I love being a Buckeye and want to continue my education and development as a player and as a person at Ohio State.

“If I do have an opportunity to play basketball professionally, I want to have an immediate impact,” Thomas said. “Working with my teammates and coaches at Ohio State will help me achieve my future goals.”

Thomas, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., is the top returning scorer and rebounder from Ohio State’s Final Four team that finished 31-8 in 2011-12. He averaged 15.9 points and 5.4 rebounds.

Over 39 games last year, Thomas connected on 52 percent of his field goals (243-467) and connected on 75 percent of his foul shots (83-111). For his career, Thomas (6-7, 225) has scored 897 points (11.8 ppg.) over 76 appearances and 39 starts.

Ohio State has won 65 games with Thomas’ contributions over the last two seasons. The Buckeyes have won two Big Ten regular-season titles, made two trips to the NCAA tournament “Sweet 16,” advanced to a pair of Big Ten tournament title games and have won 38 games in Columbus with Thomas in the lineup.
