Many basketball fans attending the Real Deal on the Hill tournament this weekend in Fayetteville will be there to see next year?s top prospects, but they?ll also be able to see some of the top players for the 2010 and 2011 classes.
Power forward Deshaun Thomas, 6-7, 220 pounds, of Fort Wayne (Ind. ) Bishop Luers led the state of Indiana in scoring as a freshman. He?s already established himself as one of the nation?s elite players as a sophomore and is rated the No. 3 player in the nation in the 2010 class by ESPN. com?s Bob Gibbons.
Thomas, who will play for Spiece Indy Heat, has made an early commitment to Ohio State, Gibbons said.
?He?s very good,? Gibbons said. ?He could be the real deal of the Real Deal on the Hill, pun intended.? Gibbons said some are questioning whether Thomas? commitment will stick, and Thomas said he might make other visits. But he is still leaning to Ohio State, Gibbons said.

Luers' sophomore star adds another 1st

The Journal Gazette
Add another first to the list for Deshaun Thomas.
The sophomore became the first boys basketball player from Bishop Luers to be named the Tiffany Gooden Award winner. The award is selected and presented by The Journal Gazette to the SAC male or female basketball player of the year.
The honor is the latest in a series for Thomas and the Knights. Bishop Luers won its first boys basketball state title on March 22, defeating Winchester 69-67 in the Class 2A final.
?For me to get this award, I just went out there, played hard and was a leader to help my team get to state,? Thomas said Monday after the banquet in the Marriott Hotel?s Marquis Ballroom. ?We did what we needed to win ball games. Thanks to Tiffany for everything.

However, sometimes a writer will have a hidden agenda like "if the kid isn't going to the school I like then maybe he isn't really that good" or " the kid snubbed me so I'll try to get even". DeShaun Thomas is an outstanding basketball player and will only get better. He and Jared Sullinger will be a great pair of "go-to guys" for the Buckeyes.

For Thomas, the exposure isn?t needed. He is ranked in the top three of high school sophomores nationally by most scouting services and recently won a Class 2A state championship and the Tiffany Gooden Award as the SAC?s top player.
That doesn?t mean he doesn?t take the AAU circuit seriously.
?It is more competition, and it feels great playing AAU,? he said. ?We had some tough luck, but we kept our heads up. I never get tired of playing basketball. It is my dream, and my love.?
