F DeShaun "The Diesel" Thomas (Panathinaikos - Greece)

I might get a little concerned depending on who they bring in as their new coach or are we really locked that tight. I remember that he verbal months ago but got pressure to think about it.

He has said all along that tOSU is where he is going, he was asked by those close to him just to go through the process to be sure. Sound at all familiar? As we all know teenagers can change their mind, but Thomas has never waivered at all. Nothing to worry about here.

Class 2A

Northeast Indiana has a monopoly these days on the top 2A rankings. The top three teams in the poll are from this part of the state with No. 1 Bluffton, No. 2 Westview and No. 3 Bishop Luers.
But only one can survive the northern postseason to get to state.
It gets started at the Woodlan Sectional, where the Tigers and Knights could face off in the championship game. Imagine that, one of the top three teams in the state eliminated the first Saturday of the tournament. It should be a classic matchup of balanced Bluffton against athletic Luers, led by sophomore sensation DeShaun Thomas and his 29 points and 13 rebounds a game.

Knights top No. 1, take title

By Greg Jones

High school sports editor

WOODBURN ? This time, Lawrence Barnett got to be the hero.
The Bishop Luers junior?s layup with 2 seconds left lifted Class 2A No. 3 Bishop Luers past top-ranked Bluffton 66-64 on Saturday in the finals of the Woodlan Sectional.

The 6-foot-7 Thomas was there just in case Barnett missed. Thomas also had a tip-in to beat Bishop Dwenger.
?That?s my specialty, and I always follow the shots,? Thomas said. ?I was ready.?
Barnett scored 17 points, and Thomas, who battled a double team all game, had 15 for the Knights.

3 pts for Deshaun in the first quarter
1-4 FG, 0-1 3pt, 1-1 FT, 2 reb, 1 to

-Been fouled 4 times through the first quarter, getting hounded every touch, triple-teamed

-still plays like a young pup, gets frustrated, forces shots

15-9, Tipton leads Ft. Wayne Leurs after 1.

2nd quarter update

10 pts, 6 rebs
4-9 fg, 1-2 3pt, 1-1 FT, 1 blk

-could work on defense, has 2 lazy fouls, gets beat off dribble too often
-starting to get more involved on offense
-better player when he gets inside...got a couple inside buckets and then took his game outside for a nice 3
-picked up a 3rd foul on a bad over the back call...goes to the bench with 2 minutes left in the half

Leurs picked up their game (and the pace), looked a lot better

Tipton hits a 40 footer as time expires
31-28 at the half

3rd quarter update
16 pts, 7 rebs, 1 blk
7-12 fg, 1-2 3pt, 1-1 ft

-he's bigger and stronger than everyone on the court, I like how he's starting to enforce his game closer to the basket
-continues to draw fouls with his size, mostly off the ball as Tipton tries to deny him the ball
-picked up his fourth with 3:37 to go in the 3rd, lazy D, got beat baseline and rode the guy with his hand
-nice to see him get the fans and bench involved as he sits on the sideline with 4 fouls

43-39 Bishop Leurs after 3.

22pts, 8 rebs, 1 blk
9-15 fg, 1-2 3pt, 3-3 fts

-starts 4th even with his foul trouble
-Leurs shows off their 4 corners offense
-airballs a 15 footer
-hits 2 fts as Tipton begins fouling with 3:30 left
-easy one-hand dunk
-2 hand dunk with 1:30 left (Tipton is just chasing, looking to foul, lots of open court)

Final: 72-64, Leurs will play in the championship later tonight, it will be on [tape-delayed] television as well, not sure I'll be home to watch, but I'll probably record it.

Announcers brought up a rumor that DeShaun may transfer to a prep school next year. I'd hate to see him leave the state but he only plays at the Class 2A level (4A is highest), so a move to a bigger prep school could be better for him down the road.

That might be good in a way. I wouldn't mind seeing him transfer to a prep school outside this State of Indiana. I know that he is "committed" to us but his mind could change if the new Indiana coach would really a view to him.JMO

Thanks for your updates.

DeShaun had a monster game. He was way more aggressive in the 2nd half of the first game and carried the same drive in this game. Worked inside on a much smaller team, showed a strong post-up game. Got a lot of lay-ups and easy buckets in the lane. Good shooting touch from the free throw line going 17-19 on the night.

His game is beginning to remind me of former Buckeye JJ Sullinger. Both lefties with some height and extreme athleticism. They both carry a very wide base in the post and like pull up jumpers where they can rise up over defenders. The outside game is there, but they do there best down low on turnarounds, spins, and put backs. DeShaun has better handles and will be a better outside shooter by the time he gets on campus.

48 pts (34 in 2nd half and overtime)
15/25 fg, 17-19 FTs

Leurs wins their Regional and heads to Semi-state 94-81 in OT.
