Bugatti, the maker of the world?s fastest production car, developed a 1.65 million-euro ($2.4 million) special edition of the Veyron Grand Sport model with porcelain accents, including a caviar tray.
The L?Or Blanc, the first vehicle equipped with porcelain, according to Bugatti, is a joint effort between Volkswagen AG (VOW)?s supercar brand and Berlin-based KPM, a 248-year-old porcelain maker that traces its roots back to King Frederick the Great of Prussia. The roadster, which will be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, was unveiled last week in Berlin.
?Installing porcelain in the world?s fastest convertible car seems like a pretty odd idea,? Stefan Brungs, the brand?s sales chief, said at the June 30 event. ?But Bugatti has made a name for itself by not shying away from extravagant ideas.?
VW purchased Bugatti in 1998 along with the Lamborghini and Bentley ultra-luxury nameplates to compete with Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW)?s Rolls-Royce. Under VW?s reign, the brand, which was founded by Italian-born car designer Ettore Bugatti, started production of the two-door Veyron 16.4 in 2005. The last of 300 models of the limited series was sold last week to a European-based customer, spokeswoman Emanuela Wilm said.
Bugatti, which makes about 50 cars a year from its headquarters in Molsheim, France, may build the four-door 16C Galibier model after getting the go-head from Wolfsburg, Germany-based VW, two people familiar with the matter said in April. The model has a 1,000-horsepower engine and may cost about 1 million euros.
Picnic Set

The L?Or Blanc, which is painted in vibrant white with royal blue lines curving along the exterior, was developed as a one-of-a-kind model for an unidentified businessman from the United Arab Emirates, who has a collection of about 800 cars, Bugatti?s Wilm said.
The vehicle features 12 porcelain elements, including wheel badges and fuel and oil caps. A panel depicting an elephant standing on its hind legs, a Bugatti symbol, is mounted between the seats. A scepter, the logo of KPM given to the company in 1763, is inlaid at the top of the windshield.
A highlight of the car is a porcelain dish in the center console. The dish can serve as a caviar tray, when used together with an ice bucket that?s part of a specially designed picnic set, said Achim Anscheidt, Bugatti?s design chief.
?It?s all arranged in a way that allows for maximum comfort during the drive,? he said.

One day, I'd like to own a '72 Stingray.

My dad has a '66 Stingray. His is about the same color as this one, but with a white racing stripe down the middle. It needs some work, and I have been bugging him over the last year to drag it out of storage and let me put money into it if he wants to let me drive it.

I'd like to get the frame redone, interior, paint job, and an original engine put in it. I would gladly put 10k into the car over a period of time.

It's such a better product than the series they have in America on History Channel (I think). Tanner Foust just isn't a good co-host. The three guys on the BBC series are awesome, and hilarious. If you have netflix, look up the episode where they have to make an RV type vehicle. It's so [censored]ing hilarious.

Or the double decker car race where the top car controls the steering, and the bottom car controls the brakes and gas. They just seem to have SO much more fun on the show.

I really enjoy seeing exotic/sports cars, and I've been particularly drawn to the Audi R8 since the Superbowl commercial where they spoofed the Godfather horsehead scene. Anyway... the R8 is going super!

FWIW, I've owned precisely one sports car in my life:

Maybe one day, I'll get the Spyder, but until then... I'll just dream of having six figures to blow on an R8.

What about you?

I just turned 12,000 on my '09 S4 Cab tonight. I'm much more of a sport sedan guy, but the R8 is one that could make me rethink everything I know about cars. Just beautiful lines... being an S4 owner I'm partial to Audi, but it's hard to deny that the R8 doesn't belong in the most beautiful cars team photo.

Had a '67 convertible, it was black with a white interior. It too had sidepipes. I bought it in a small town just outside Scranton PA for $2800 in 1975. Should had kept that one but I sold it... long story. Loved that car.

We haven't done any parts shopping in years, but we used to head across the PA line to Yogi Bair's out in Linesville, PA. It's a helluva Corvette shop.

http://www.bairs.com/

Some years back we got new sidepipes, front/rear bumpers, and wheels for it - all '66 original.

Buddy of mine's dad has a mint condition pristine '67 that is original to a T minus the color, and he regularly wins awards at car shows for it. He's a car "collector" you could say (must be nice, son of a bitch). Old and new.

Some more car porn...

fordgtside2008.jpg

Read an article where they raced a Ford GT against an Enzo. The Ford thoroughly kicked the Enzo's ass. Then, they had the drivers switch to make sure it wasn't a case of driver talent. The Ford still kicked the Enzo's ass.

Of course, Jeremy Clarkson bought a Ford GT that wouldn't start. Hard to kick a Prius' ass when the car's engine won't turn over.

Thanks for the link. It will come in handy for my "other projects". I like the old ones too.

See my PM. My long departed '67 was a driver that I eventually painted and restored. Early in it's life, that car took me everywhere in my first job out of college. Shreveport, Lousiana, Danville Illinois, Daytona Beach (vacation on the beach), Colorado Springs, Estes Park, Pikes Peak (breathing hard at 14,000 ft).

That fucking boat Richard was carrying around.

The episode where they drove from Miami to New Orleans was classic, too. God love the South.

Pretty much any episode where they are given a set amount of money and asked to drive across a country = win!

The 3 Alfa Romeo's episode is probably my favorite.
