Ex-Wolverine BS (all merged - including the tearful goodbyes)

Near the Shoe is a buckeye grove (one tree for each OSU All-American)... you can get your nuts there.

Hang-on-sloopy is not technically an OSU song. a long time ago (don't know when 40's-50's maybe??) the band played the the song, people liked it, and the band has been playing it eversince.
Wow, so many traditions at OSU. At UM, our only tradition was to be rich and stuck up... Is there a site that talks about OSU traditions? I know I could find one on my own, but you all surely know better than I do.

I still have my doubts. I think I'm with Killernut on this. Three obvious flaws come to mind. One, even though you (ex-wolverweenie) hated SCum, you went back, year after year. Sounds to me like you share the IQ range of a typical SCum student (and I mean that in the best way possible). Two, in your first two posts in this forum, you flat out admitted there will be times when you cheer for miSHITgan over tOSU; therefore, you are not a true fan to either school. Three, Notre Dame sucks almost as much as miSHITgan, and you admit to wearing their colors as well. I had to open a beer after reading your posts, simply for the smell. It helped greatly in stopping my immediate gag reflex.

Some things that it is important for you to know:

1. Just know that, even tho some of us on this board disagree on other things, the one glue that holds us together is the fact that we are Buckeye fans. We will die Buckeye fans. To be anything other than Buckeye fans will never cross our minds. To help you better understand this, I suggest you read two threads;

a. Sticky: Sound Off (Reference Locker)
b. Most hated fans (Open Discussion)

2. Change your name from "Ex-Wolverine". First, because you never were. A scUMerine would NEVER put on anything Ohio State. And second, every time I see the name, a chill runs through my body.

3. If at any time you feel that you may defend scUM in any way, you truly are at the wrong site. KillerNut put into words what is in most of our hearts in your first thread. :oh: :io:
1. Thanks for the heads up. I sounded off, though I have a feeling it will make people feel a bit of animousity toward me.

2. Can't change my nick. Being an Ex Wolverine is a part of me. There's a guy here whose avatar is half an OSU flag, half an OU flag. Obviously, OU is a part of him. KentStateBuck has a Kent State logo as his avatar. Something about Kent State is a part of him, and if you were to hear him talk about Kent State in one of his rants, you would understand it.

I was a Wolverine. I went to UM. It's a part of me. I can't change it and wouldn't want to, because the fact that I was a Wolverine is the reason why I hate UM in the first place.

3. I don't imagine I will defend UM. If I do, it will be something like "no, their uniforms are not ugly, but their coeds sure are." I know of a million things to hate about UM that you guys don't know anything about. I tend to be realistic at all times, so if someone were to say that OSU has a better basketball team than UM, I would disagree, but point out that OSU's football team is better and their coeds are hotter.

And if I ever do defend outright UM, tear into me. Rip me a new asshole. Just don't ban me because when it's over, I hold no grudges and will tear into UM any chance I get.

I am serious when I say that you may be more passionate about OSU, but I hate UM more than you do.

Hang On Sloopy is a song by the McCoy's originally recorded in the early Sixties. The McCoy's were from Ohio, and TBDBINTL played it for the 1st time at halftime of a game in 1965(?) and the crowd erupted. Ever since, its been the "unofficial" fight song.

It also is the highlight of the Friday nights before scUM weekend: you're bombed, at a bar, and all of a sudden you hear it being played & the crowd goes nuts. Oh, the ol' college days ..

How come there are no buckeye nuts anywhere to be found on the Oval? Do the squirrels eat them? Last time I visited, I wanted one so badly because I have never seen one, and I scoured the ground but didn't see one.
If I recall correctly, there are a few buckeye trees on The Oval. I remember picking up a handful in the area near the front of either Orton Hall of the Faculty Club during my freshman year.

I imagine finding buckeyes there takes some bit of luck, as there is a good amount of traffic in that area from both humans and critters, and they probably get carried off rather quickly.

Ex-W...,

I was thinking about my 7 yr. old son a few minutes, and then I got it. What you are failing to grasp here.
My 1st trip to see the BUCKEYES in the Shoe. I'm 15 yrs. old, and me and a friend hitch-hicked to Columbus. Started out at 3:45 am. The last ride we got dropped us off a little over a block from the stadium. Seeing the Horseshoe for the first time live was almost orgasmic. I saw Rex Kern and Jack Tatum play live!

I have two sons. My first son is 17 now. When he was growing up, watching the Buckeyes on TV with me, I wondered why he didn't get it. Then one fall day, when he was 10, he finally got it.That Buckeye spirit. Honest to God, it brought tears to my eyes.
My 7 yr. old don't get it yet. He will. And this time I'll have my camcorder beside me when it happens.

There are people who go to Ohio State today who don't get. it. Oh, they root for the team, get a little bummed if they lose, but then go about their business. And then there are BUCKEYES. Everything in the world is right when we win. When we lose, the world is evil. Don't talk to us, don't EVEN try to understand howe we feel, and heaven forbid if the last game of the year is a loss!

You were never a scUMerine. You liked the scUM sports when they won, and yet couldn't stand the people? You

went to scUM for 4 yrs., and yet you wear Ohio State gear only if you look good in it?

I've hated scUM for over 40 yrs.. You have a long way to go before you will even be able to grasp the depth of my feelings towards them. Being a Buckeye fan is a way a life.

Not that I recall. I'm sure that I'm mistaken about this, but I don't remember seeing a single Buckeye tree in all my six years of college. Which strikes me as strange, being that when my Dad would take me to games as a child, I would see tons of Buckeye trees and nuts. But then again, the only people who go to college for six years are brain surgeons and me, so don't take my word for it.

I am not an expert on Buckeye trees, but isn't there one on each side of the little center paved area of the Oval?

I was looking for a buckeye nut, and people looked at me as if I were an idiot. I asked someone if it was a buckeye tree, and they said it was.

Kind of whitish bark?

I never said I liked UM sports when they won. I don't care if my teams win or lose, really. I want them to win, obviously. But true passion for a team runs so deep that the only time you are TRULY pissed is when they don't show effort.

I also never said I wear OSU gear only if I look good in it. I said that I prefer grey or black stuff to scarlet.

Do you drive a bright orange and brown car? Why not? Because you prefer another color. Doesn't mean you don't like or love Chevy (or Dodge or Ford or whatever). Means that you want to drive a blue Chevy or a red Ford. What you're saying is basically "You don't love Chevy because you will only drive a blue Chevy, not a bright orange and brown one." Get real.

As for your 40 years of hatred toward UM. Yes, you have hated them longer. No, you don't hate the place anywhere near as much as I do. Not even close. UM beat your team. UM ruined a few days for you, maybe a few seasons. UM did not ruin several YEARS OF YOUR LIFE. UM did not wrong you personally.

You will never understand why or how much I hate UM.

I'm going to modify my original statement of support for Ex-Wolverine a tad, after re-reading his statement, "I will probably never share the intense hatred of UM athletics the way that you guys do, I wish UM well athletically, and when the two teams play, I want the one with the better chance of winning the National Championship win. But if they go into the game 11-0, I want OSU to beat them every time!" in his original post. If he is to truly become a real, no-shit, Buckeye fan, then he needs to realize that it is never acceptable to root for any other team, even your former childhood favorite, over Ohio State at any time. You don't revert back to rooting for Michigan even if they come into The Game undefeated and ranked #1 and we have 4 losses and are unranked. You root for Ohio State with every fiber of your being, every single game--before, during, and after the game--especially for The Game. Being a Buckeye fan is not a cyclic thing. You are either a Buckeye fan 100% of the time, or you're not a Buckeye fan, period.

That being said, I think we should help to misguided child continue his Journey of Enlightenment back off the Path of Evil. There are some poisons that time a long time to be flushed from your system, and there is no viler poison than scUM.
