Ewing decides to leave Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Pat Ewing Jr. is transferring from Indiana after two seasons with the Hoosiers.

As first reported by CBS SportsLine.com's Gregg Doyel, Ewing, the son of former NBA great Patrick Ewing, will transfer to another school at the end of the spring semester, coach Mike Davis said Wednesday.
"Pat is an exceptional athlete with a lot of potential, and we're disappointed to see him go," Davis said in a statement. "We wish him nothing but the best."

A 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward, Ewing started five of the 29 games in which he played this season, averaging 4.0 points and 3.8 rebounds a game during Indiana's 15-14 season.

Ewing's minutes likely would have dropped next year with the additions of Auburn transfer Marco Killingsworth and Australian freshman Ben Allen. Another big man, Lucas Steijn, redshirted this season and could be a factor for playing time next season.

He was a top recruit for Davis out of National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, Md., but only averaged 2.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game as a freshman.

"I've spent a lot of time with my family and given this decision a lot of thought, and I feel it is in my best interests to pursue my education and basketball career at another school," Ewing said.

Ewing Jr. is one of the worst players I've seen. He has no defensive prescence, offensive ability, or work ethic. Anyone who takes this guy on scholarship is wasting one.

I watched between 4 & 5 Indiana games this year and thought he pretty much sucked all around. It was almost as painful as watching his dad play in his Seattle and Orlando years.

HOUSTON (AP) -- Pat Ewing Jr. is headed for his father's alma mater, according to a broadcast report.

NBA great Patrick Ewing told Houston television station KRIV on Wednesday that his son will transfer from Indiana to Georgetown.

The younger Ewing said earlier this year that he felt it was best for him to transfer to another school for his education and basketball career. A 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward, Ewing started five of the 29 games in which he played last season, averaging 4 points and 3.8 rebounds a game during Indiana's 15-14 season.

Patrick Ewing, an assistant coach for the Houston Rockets, said he isn't worried about his son having to deal with the pressure of following in his footsteps at Georgetown.

"He has had to live and play with my name all of his life," the coach said.

He said his son also considered Miami and North Carolina before making his choice.

Pat Ewing Jr. will have to sit out the 2005-2006 season.
