Euro 2008 - Italy vs. Spain

One thing that I am very disappointed in the modernization of football is the diving and crying after someone gets nudged. I'm so sick of it. The only way to fix this is to start carding pretty heavily and then maybe players would start being men about it.

/end rant

Few things worse in sports than an official who can't handle the moment. This ref doesn't want to make any call that means anything. Defenders can foul at will in the box while he calls nothing fouls at midfield.

Some call that letting the players decide the game. I call that nonsense. By not enforcing the rules the official is deciding the game. Do your job, ref.

Spain seems to be pressing. They get anywhere near the goal and they fire away, usually missing the goal by a mile. Italy is doing what they do, play defense, and wait...

Referee's ruining the game. Way too many unnecessary stoppages, way too inconsistent. Kind of funny hearing Andy Grey bitch about Italy being cheats and getting away with everything though, while Puyol and Marchena are trying to rip Toni's shirt off and Villa, Silva, and Torres are falling all over the place and acting as if they've been shot until Italy put the ball out of play. I didn't think it was possible for him to sound any more bitter than he usually is, but evidently I was wrong.

Grosso and Zambrotta are being caught out way too often. I have a feeling that's going to end up costing Italy.

Hell of a save by Casillas. If he doesn't get back it's 1-0 the Italians

EDIT: I have now seen one of the two teams start a free kick and the ref have to stop it right after because he had to "calm" a player down. This is one of the worst ref's I've seen in a long time.

Yep, this ref is in over his head.

Casillas saved the day for Spain. If Italy goes up there they play 10 men back, it not 11, the rest of the game. Good luck.

Casillas with the save of the tournament so far, no doubt.

Spain needs to play the wings more, they have the speed to beat the defense, they need to take advantage.

Italy also needs to play the wings but they need to keep it out there and put more crosses in and use the height advantage they possess.

Could be extra time.

Yet again this ref just goes to show how much of an idiot he is. Giving Villa a yellow for losing his footing in the box. FIFA needs to review this schmuck.

The only way Spain has gotten any kind of a push/chances was when they counter attacked. If they just pass the ball around like they have been, they are allowing the Italians to get all 11 men back

WTF was that dude for Spain thinking? He gets a great cross in the box, all he has to do is chest it down and fire at goal, and he cradles it with his ARMS????

Yet again after a clean tackle, Toni falls, and Spain was counter attacking and he blows the whistle for the injury. This shit's gotta stop. FIFA or someone better get rid of this lard ass of a ref

If I saw correctly it appeared he instructed Spain to knock it out of bounds to stop play. I know that's a courtesy play in an injury situation but I'm not used to seeing an official actually direct a team to do it.

This clown needs to stick with lower level club soccer.

Ahh yes, the magic water bottle heals another injury. :roll2:

The Italians sure know how to play the officials. Of course, that's one reason I picked them to win today.

Looks like it'll come down to PKs at this point.
