That old guy Maxwell needs some medications acting like a lost man. If I ever get like that please someone poison me:)

Whoever that guy was, he was MUCH worse last year. I knew who would be coming out based on Chris Fowler's introduction. The intro amounted to, "I'm going to open this package and see what comes out. Everybody step back."

I appreciate football history as much as anyone this side of BB73, and celebrating the old-timers is great. But some people are cut out for public speaking and some are not. Being a part of college football history earns you my respect, but it does not qualify you for national television.

The awards won are a direct reflection on the players, the Ohio State university, The coaches, the student body, and the alumni.
These Honors will live forever in the hearts and minds of all of us and all who will follow.
What a grand day. Congratulations to all of us.
I'm generally not averse to unearned praise, but I've gotta say, I don't think I deserve any congratulations for this.

As for Brady Quinn winning the Maxwell Award, who really cares? Troy Smith took 2 out of 3 of the "also-ran" awards, and he's going to take the only one that anyone remembers. Of that, there is not a shred of doubt.

This just in: The Maxwell will be re-named next year to the Peyton Manning Award. It will go to the college qb that posts the best numbers against bad teams, but can't win a big game.

Congrats.

Ok Raiders, please don't buy into the hype. Let the Lions take him.

The guy was Tommy McDonald, who appeared to be a little more sober this year. He played on the Oklahoma team during their record 47-game winning streak. He won the Maxwell in '56, and actually had the most first-place Heisman votes that year, but finished third behind Paul Hornung (QB of a 2-8 ND team) and Johnny Majors of Tennessee.

The only other person I'm aware of that had the most first-place Heisman votes without winning the trophy is Chuck Fusina, who finished second to Billy Sims of Oklahoma in 1978.

Correct. Sims actually had more second place votes (152) than first place votes (151) on his way to winning the Heisman.

Come on now....we both know the Raiders will suck for a while regardless. Wouldn't it be fun watching him amount to nothing in the NFL?

Sympathy from Michigan fans:

Troy Smith Got Screwed

Did former SEINFELD actor Michael Richard tabulate the votes for the Maxwell Award? Because that's about the only logical way we can think of for Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn to have won the award for player of the year over Ohio State QB Troy Smith.

I mean come on!

As U-M fans, we are no lover of Ohio State and we're thrilled Troy Smith has used up his eligibility for selfish reasons. But in the biggest games, he plays his best (as U-M fans know all too well). This year alone, he led his team to an undefeated season and victories over two #2 teams, the first time that has ever happened.

And Brady Quinn?

Uh, um, he looked good against 4-8 Michigan State...in the 4th quarter. The only award he should have won over Smith is the Commander in Chief Trophy in recognition of Notre Dame's stirring victories over the service academies.

Seriously, who counted up the votes for this thing? The old accountants for Enron?

What bullshit.

Yep! The whole thing stinks.
You too can buy a Maxwell vote for just $35!
Visit the Maxwell Club website and see if I'm kidding about this!
I'm not saying that's what happened, but it's weird..............

I seem to recall Desmond Howard saying that he wouldn't vote this year because "nobody deserves it". I took that to mean he refuses to vote for a Buckeye. It's also terribly ironic considering the fashion that he won it.
Desmond Howard got Troy nothing but props last night on the Screamin' A. Smith show. Also, he had nothing but kind words the say about tOSU, he's picking tOSU in the NC game. He said, Florida doesn't have enough offense to keep up with the tOSU machine! I guess that was a cloned Desmond Howard.

Awards last night

Davey O'Brien goes to Troy... but the Maxwell goes to Brady Quinn???? I hate these politically correct award committees. Since the big trophy will go to Troy we have to give something to Quinn??? Brady had 2 chances to shine this year and got killed in both games. Troy would have put up NCAA record numbers against ND's schedule. Just give it to the guy that deserves it. How do you win the O'Brien (best quarterback) and the Heisman (best player) and not the Maxwell (college player of the year). I can live with Patrick Willis beating out Laurinaitis for the Butkus but putting Quinn above Troy for anything is absurd.
