ESPN (A bunch of Death-Spiraling maroons)

On the radio side, try listening to Golic's new show for 10 minutes. It is worse than any morning drive time zoo talk show that I have ever heard. Eight of those 10 minutes will be commercials and the other 2 will be pop culture bs.

That's all they can do. Trey Wingo has the personality of dry paint and Golic isn't interesting without having a lame moron like Greenberg to make fun of....I tried the same on Monday. I lasted all of 5 minutes before I turned it off. I doubt it'll be on the radio in 2 years.

Let’s see...injection of politics, selective enforcement of their policies regarding those politics, turning their flagship show into pop culture douchehattery, keeping talentless hacks on the air while letting go of real reporters in the trenches, providing a platform for brainless cockwits like Screaming A. Stoolsample and (for years) Skip to my Lou Talentless, Having Max Kellerman near a studio, pushing the SEC as the best conference every year in clear conflict of interest, Insider content on their website...what else have I missed?

Overcharging customers for access
Undercovering sports for which they don't have a TV contract
Too many damned commercials
Catering to the lowest common denominator
Not allowing their employees to go on other networks as guests (e.g. Dan Patrick Show)

and so on....

So it's like it never changed from 10 years ago when I realized how vapid it was?

Tried a couple times when they premiered the new format with Golic X 2 + Wingo. Decided to make a trip to Sherwin Williams for a couple gallons of paint. If you're prudent about the dimensions of the area you apply it to, you can have enough paint to watch dry for months and months. And, it will be more entertaining. Never went back. (And never could stand the nepotismally-employed Jr. Guy has NO charm to him. At least his dad can be kind of jovial and funny.)

Speaking of...just checked to see if Greenberg's morning show ever got off the ground. Appears it just did this month. Oh, and there's this:

Ex-ESPN boss John Skipper left the network with expensive, faltering show 'Get Up!,' critics say

Former ESPN President John Skipper left the network with an expensive calamity amid a substance abuse issue, and critics have pounced on the early struggles of “Get Up!”

Skipper left ESPN last year when a drug dealer attempted to extort him by using his cocaine habit against him. But the wheels for his lavish program, “Get Up!,” were already in motion at the time of Skipper’s abrupt exit and the results haven’t been pretty...Skipper’s decision to build the morning show around Greenberg caused the breakup of the highly popular “Mike & Mike,” which was among the most successful programs in ESPN history and doubled as the face of ESPN Radio. The new morning show also replaced the morning edition of ESPN’s flagship “SportsCenter,” but “Get Up!” has failed to resonate with viewers thus far.

That may explain a lot. Dude was too coked up to think clearly when he decided to break up M&M.

Trey Wingo is probably the boringest radio co-host I have heard, my goodness he just has nothing interesting to say ever. I actually like the fill-in guy Jason Fitz when he is on though.

So, Greeny leaves the show with Golic and has a new show now. I read some articles where he stated he wanted to didn't want to do early mornings anymore and he wanted to do a show that was not sports centric. Yet, here we are with his new show on at 7 a.m., called Get Up, with a sports centric show and cast. To top it all of it is on against his former co-anchor. Greeny gets the main ESPN slot and Golic and Wingo get bumped to the NEWS.....

At least until they have to cancel Greeny's show because of the low, low ratings. Be interesting to see how long it takes ESPiN to admit their mistake. Never did talk to anyone who said that, of the two on M&M, Greeny was their favorite. Unless they find some fantastically entertaining co-host, I just can't imagine his show enduring. I did watch M&M fairly often, mainly because I preferred it to morning news talk shows (which is always depressing), but I have zero interest in watching Get Up.

This is relevant to what we've been discussing. I'll have to read it more thoroughly when I'm not at work or something.

http://awfulannouncing.com/espn/did...oor-promotional-decisions-woke-narrative.html

Basically - ESPN may be missing the point. People - especially their target demographic - want to see highlights. I don't know if the people who are at home during the day - primarily stay at home parents and retirees - are going to switch from their daytime talk shows to this show.

It's going to fail. And it'll be spectacular. The real question is how long does ESPN continue to sink money into it before they say they screwed up.

========================================

This occurred to me while I was typing the above: ESPN is now what WCW was during the pro/fake wrestling Monday night wars.

Much like WCW spending Ted Turner's money, ESPN is spending Disney's money. So if they burn a couple million on something that sucks (or in WCW's case, a wrestler who is far beyond his prime and wrestles 3 times like the Ultimate Warrior did in 1998), you don't care. You say that you care, you try to come up with bad ideas to show that you care, but in the end, it's not their money, it's Disney's money. There's no incentive to really improve the product.
