I agree completely with your whole post, that's exactly how I feel! That team was truly something special. We hardly won those games and yet were still considered for the NC game. What's sad is, if that were to happen today, we probably wouldn't be considered because of the media/polls/voters/etc.

Anyways, it's simple... just play the damn game like you know how! Play with pride, play with heart, play with passion!

What I miss is how OSU looks in the light. When the shadows of doubt are cast elsewhere...and likely on our opponent. Cincinnati did everything but win that game.

The Illini took us to OT.

And it was that sweet cocktail of fear blended with exuberance that kept all of us glowing. It wasn't swagger...we were not a cocky lot back then...we were a band of pirates hoping there was a little more magic left in the bottle. One more round of that triumph to get us through the NEXT game. We became the team people pulled for rather than resented.

We glowed.

I'd like that back.

Last week against Navy *felt* like 2002. OSU in a game against a lessor team that found the right combination of fortunate play calls and strange events to take us to the wire. And even in the midst of the media outrage and accusations...and the calls of over rated...the team looked calm....and ready to find the W in the mess of doubt. They didn't look like a team desperate for a rally... they didn't appear panicked to me.. they actually looked eerily calm.. I wondered if they were even aware of just what was going on. They were not a team coming undone because Navy had managed to punch back..they looked like a team that would find what was needed to win. It wasn't pretty..it wasn't easy..it was.....2002. But their calm in the face of adversity kept me rattled until the W was in hand.

THAT is ever so 2002.

So OSU has yet another call to opportunity. Yeah, those recent BIG losses suck..but recognize the immense achievement it is to lose those 'watershed' games and keep coming back for more. Lessor programs can't survive all those 'must win for pride and the sake of the program' losses and continue to get the call to another nationality defining game. They fade after a body blow or two. And now we need to punch back. It is time...we need one of these if we are to reasonably expect to extend this beautiful run deep into the next decade.

I don't want swag, I don't want cocky...I don't want what USC or Florida has..I want what we have...and I want the team and the fans to just believe again. Light them up and chase the shadows back to the other sideline.

I want to see these guys CONVINCED. I want to see them play loose even in the face of adversity. I want to see us go BIG even when we only need a little. I want to see us playing like it is just a game and all the extra baggage of expectations and the business of it is up in the stands with us rather than on the field in the minds of the players. Let the fans handle the HOPE and the FEAR..and let the team just WIN.

I am sick of all the shadows, doubts and questions on and around the team...I want to see them step back in the light. I want that glow that makes the OTHER guy pause in doubt.

I hope the players can block out all the other voices and just play the game...and play it to win rather than to not fail....play it fast and loose...and play it well.

And play like they *know* they are going to win.

Beat USC.

Beat Toledo.

Beat Illinois.

Beat Indiana.

Beat Wisconsin.

Beat Purdue.

Beat Minnesota.

Beat New Mexico State.

Beat Penn State.

Beat Iowa.

Beat TSUN.

Hell, beat them all by just 1 point to make the outsiders really go crazy for all I care...I don't care how we do it but
