WHAT THE COMMITMENT OF EMORY JONES MEANS FOR OHIO STATE'S 2018 RECRUITING CLASS

Finding the right fit for your college football program isn't just about what happens on the field, but off it as well. Today, Ohio State added a key piece. How will that commitment impact the Buckeyes?

Less than an hour ago, Urban Meyer and Tim Beck secured a commitment from yet another one of America's top quarterbacks when Emory Jones, the No. 3 dual-threat passer for 2018, announced his commitment to Ohio State.

Let's take a closer look at what the nation's 34th-ranked overall prospect will be bringing to Columbus.

ON THE FIELD
Jones certainly has the necessary size and frame to play the position. 247Sports lists the four-star at 6-foot-1.5 and 193 pounds while Rivals.com lists him at 6-foot-4. Either way, anyone who's seen him when he's been on campus can probably tell you that height really isn't a concern here. As for his frame, he certainly has the potential to put on 15-20+ pounds of muscle. Jones is currently a bit on the skinny side, but that's not surprising for someone who hasn't even started his junior year of high school yet.

One of the more common descriptors for those who have seen him throw is that he has a "live" arm. Jones' deep ball is also something the pundits have raved about. You can get an idea of what kind of arm he brings to the table in this video, courtesy of the fine folks over at Rivals.

It's so awesome to have a QB that fits your system commit now, and set the tone for the class. I'm not sure how large this class will be, but I'm hoping that Emory is in the ear(and tweets) of every top 2018 recruit. I look forward to Jones developing great relationships with guys like Gill, Carman, Dotson, White, Smith, Ruckert, Thomas, Jones, etc and setting the tone and keeping the amazing class momentum of 2017 continue. No reason to get so hyped about 2017, and have 2018 teeter off, 2018 should be just as good. Jones (and Snead) can set that tone.

I keep noticing that I am saying "This is getting ridiculous." I would like to correct those statements with "This continues to be ridiculous." Can you even imagine what our QB room is going to look like in the future? Barrett, Burrow, Haskins, Martell, Clark and now Emory to come in after Barrett leaves? The depth and talent is unreal.

But as to Jones, have to be ecstatic here. Extremely polished for his age and only getting better, he will be perfect here. Nice to have him on board to help recruit for '18. And he seems like a great kid that will be an excellent leader. Welcome aboard Emory!

2018 Rivals100: No. 1 named, new five-stars

"Jones has one of the best sophomore highlight films in his class and he backed it up with one impressive showing after another during the camp season. He's an electric athlete who can make plays, but he's even more impressive as a passer, where his accuracy and deep ball ability are already very developed. Jones also still has room to grow, making him a clear candidate for five-star status. Jones is committed to Ohio State." – Woody Wommack, Rivals.com Southeast Recruiting Analyst
