Elias Ricks (DB LSU, transfer to Bama)

Here's what Saban had to say about a couple prior players that had violated his team rules:

“VanDarius has been dismissed from the team and is no longer a part of our football program due to a violation of team rules,” coach Nick Saban said in a statement. “Each of us has a responsibility to represent The University of Alabama in a first-class way, and failure to meet those standards can’t be tolerated. We wish VanDarius the very best in the future.”

and

“He is suspended from the team for violations of some team rules, whether they’re academic or whatever, it doesn’t really matter,” Saban said Wednesday. “Everybody has a responsibility and obligation to respect the principles and values [of the program] and do what they need to do -- they’re all there to help them be more successful, so to respect those and do those is always really helpful.”

Asked what Hall could do to earn his way back to the team, Saban said Hall already had that opportunity once and, “I don’t know what his plans are for the future.”

Just sayin': It will be interesting to find out what happens with Ricks.

Court dismisses marijuana charge against Alabama cornerback Eli Ricks

A court in Mississippi has dismissed a marijuana charge against Alabama cornerback Eli Ricks.

Ricks, a junior who transferred from LSU, was arrested May 1 by the Mississippi Highway Patrol and charged with possession of marijuana, not having insurance and speeding.

A hearing in his case was scheduled for Thursday morning in Jones County Justice Court. A clerk for the court said Thursday afternoon that Ricks’ possession of marijuana charge was dismissed and, through his attorney, Ricks pled guilty to the speeding ticket and received a fine.

A police report obtained by AL.com after Ricks’ arrest showed he was stopped at 4:20 p.m. CT while traveling southbound on Interstate 59 near Laurel. Police noted Ricks was traveling 91 m.p.h. and was in possession of one gram of marijuana.

Ricks was a five-star recruit from California in 2020 who was a third-team Associated Press All-America selection as a freshman. He underwent shoulder surgery midway through his sophomore season at LSU and announced in December he would transfer to Alabama.

Ricks played on Alabama’s second-team defense during April’s spring game but will compete for a starting job this August. Early NFL mock drafts from ESPN have projected Ricks as a top-10 pick next spring.

From ailing injuries to struggles with the playbook to cryptic social media posts during the season, there’s been a lot to follow associated with the highly-rated cornerback transfer from LSU. Eli Ricks has been Alabama’s third cornerback behind McKinstry and Terrion Arnold since the win over Texas and has not played significant snaps for the Crimson Tide this season. Alabama needed depth at the position coming into the year and most assumed Ricks would step on campus as an instant playmaker given his success with the Tigers. That’s not what has transpired at all for the 6-foot-2 junior from California. Even from a rotational sense, others without as much college experience have been on the field more than Ricks through seven weeks. Losing Earl Little II to an injury in camp and Khyree Jackson being bit of an unknown hasn't helped matters for the Crimson Tide on the corners.

I think a bullet was dodged folks...

Idk what better shot he would’ve been given. He went to a top 3 team to play for the greatest HC in CFB history who’s sent countless DBs to the NFL. Not sure what better shot he would’ve been given
He was very good last year at LSU yet can’t see the field on Bama’s worst secondary in years? Strange all the way around
