Ejuan Price commits to Ohio State!

Ohio State co-Defensive Coordinator Luke Fickell continues to build his resume as an elite recruiter after landing yet another highly regarded out of state linebacker for the 2011 class. With news hitting the wires today of Ejuan Price's commitment to the Buckeyes, you may be looking at a complete linebacking corp without one player from the state of Ohio.
Early in November, Conner Crowell of Waldorf, MD was like a leadoff single that rolled right past JoePa and many others recruiting him for their school. Crowell has the speed, length, & coverage abilities to play on the outside or even possibly at the STAR position. Whether it's on the strongside to cover TEs or the weak to cover releasing RBs, Crowell is more than comfortable in a backpedal into space.
Florida's (Plantation HS) Ryan Shazier stretched it to a double by following suit just over a month later. Shazier de-committed from Florida & announced for Ohio State within about two weeks time. He is best suited on the outside as well though in a much different role than Crowell. Depending on how he develops, Shazier's skills would be best used rushing from the boundaries as opposed to defending them. It is possible he could even outgrow the position and end up with his hand in the dirt (or more accurately, the ground up tire shavings).
Now Fickell finds himself with a standup triple, happily accepting a commitment from Price to plug the middle linebacker spot. The Keystone stater had offers from the hometown Pitt Panthers as well as from Iowa and several others. Besides the common thread of being from out of state, another trait Price shares with Crowell and Shazier is having elite quickness and speed. Where they differ is while the other two tend to glide and slice their way through traffic like a ginsu knife through a pop can, Price is more like a stomp from a steel toed boot. He gets the job done just as quickly, but a bit more violently. Plus you may not even be able to distinguish what the target was when he's done!
The collection of players complement eachother very well and should all make positive impacts during their time in the program. Fickell should be applauded for the fantastic job he's done in bringing the group together. Not that he would take the time to accept the praise. You see, it looks like a standup triple still leaves him short of his goal and making it all the way home. So as he he rounds third, with the throw already in the air, let's see if James Vaughters and/or Curtis Grant will be there to greet him at the backstop. :)
Please help us in welcoming Ejuan Price and his family to the program!

Scout $ - Breaking Down Ejuan Price

1/17

By The Bank...Bob Lichtenfels talks about how Woodland Hills implemented Ejuan this year which might not have transferred to the best film or stats...both Bank and Bob like him on the inside.
IMO this quote really sums the kid up. He was unselfish and played a role for his team that did not allow him to play to his fullest but rather was best for the team. This kid will be a good one for us. Count me as one who is very excited.

Congratulations Ejuan, this is a very nice LB class. A lot of edge rushers, we need those guys that can get after the QB on a consistent basis. We had only a few this past season

Late Night Ramblings: Ejuan Price, Brady Hoke and No. 1 | Bleacher Report

Wolverine to Buckeye. As I talked about earlier this evening, the Buckeyes grabbed a huge commitment from linebacker Ejuan Price. It wasn't that long ago that it seemed like a real possibility that the staff wouldn't be able to get a linebacker in this class. Now just a couple of months later the staff has nabbed three athletic guys in Price, Crowell and Shazier. Honestly, linebacker is one of the strengths of this class.
As for Price, if you haven't seen his film you need to take a look, it's pretty impressive. Immediately his speed jumps off the screen at you, especially his straight-line speed. Whether he's coming off the end or up the middle, the guy is fast and very athletic.

He also has great instincts, moves naturally and seems to put himself in position to make sure tackles. I really think the Buckeyes stole a very solid player here, as Price projects very well at the next level. The only negative is that he plays for the Woodland Hills Wolverines and has had to wear a "winged" helmet. I'll forgive him.

Inside The Shoe: Ejuan Price Commits To Ohio State

Ejuan Price has committed to Ohio State, as I thought he would. Earlier in the evening, Price had Tressel over at his house for a sit-in meeting. At that point, I thought it was a done deal, simply because he had the head coach of Ohio State over right before his announcement. The news came over Twitter, and Ohio State receives a Top 50 linebacker. On top of all this, they still have a legitimate shot with Curtis Grant and James Vaughters.

Price, a 6-0/235 middle linebacker from Woodland Hills High School in the Pittsburgh area, is listed as #10 at his position nationally by Scout.com and #11 at the slot by ESPN/Scout's Inc./ Price was targeted and offered very early and aggressively by the coaching staff, a good sign he is a player Jim Tressel views as a no-brainer, perfect fit for the program, both on and off the field.

Ejuan Price Picks the Buckeyes - The Silver Bullet

Drew Thurman (7:22 pm)

The Buckeyes picked up their 21st commitment tonight, as linebacker Ejuan Price picked OSU over Iowa. Tressel actually traveled to Price's home for a visit this evening, where Price informed him of the decision. While nobody will be shocked by this announcement (and most saw it coming), this is still a big get for the staff as National Signing Day approaches.

Price comes from Woodland Hills High School in Pittsburgh, and is listed at 6-0 235 pounds. He has put on a show there the last two seasons, racking up over 100 tackles and 10 sacks each season. Honestly, you would think his film and statistics would have generated more buzz from Buckeyes fans, who seem much more enthralled with guys like James Vaughters and Curtis Grant. The recruiting services have a lot of respect for him though. Bob Lichtenfels of Scout.com has this to say about Price:

"The only chink in Price's game may be his size at right around 5-11/6-0 tall. Price is a devastating tackler who has a very quick first step and closes fast on the ball carrier. He sheds blocks and plays well in traffic. Price moves well laterally tracking down ball carriers sideline to sideline. Shows above average cover skills in the hook/curl zone."

Sound like Brian Rolle anyone? Anyway, great get for the staff. With Price, Crowell and Shazier, the staff has a solid core of linebackers coming in this next year. If they can somehow bait Vaughters or Grant to come to Columbus, we may just be looking at the best class in the Tressel era.

The Buckeye Times: EJUAN PRICE CHOOSES OHIO STATE

PITTSBURGH - Woodland Hills (Pa.) star linebacker Ejuan Price announced on Monday evening that he will attend The Ohio State University next fall.

Price, who welcomed in Buckeyes head coach Jim Tressel and Co-defensive coordinator Luke Fickell at his home Monday, decided to play his collegiate football for the Buckeyes over Iowa and Rutgers, among others.

The 6-foot, 235-pound linebacker from western Pennsylvania becomes the 21st commitment for the Buckeyes from the class of 2011. Price is the third linebacker to join the Buckeyes from the 2011 class, along with Ryan Shazier (Plantation, Fla.) and Conner Crowell (Waldorf, Md.)

Ejuan Price is a Buckeye!! << The Buckeye Battle Cry

After a non eventful recruitment, Pennsylvania linebacker Ejuan Price has announced his decision to attend The Ohio State University by letting head coach Jim Tressel know during his in-home visit.

It came down to two big ten teams, and one of them was not PSU. Price played his recruitment about as close to the vest as one could. He was not in the spotlight, he didn't want to play the hat game, and he didn't want to have a press conference. He wanted to let the coaches know where he was going and to text a couple reporters, and that's what he did.

The Woodland Hills LB had offers from Iowa, MSU, WVU, Maryland, Rutgers, Pitt, and 'Cuse to name a few. For Buckeye fans, comparisons to Brian Rolle should excite you. He is a MLB that is aggressive, instinctive, has the ability fight through traffic, and is a knock down tackler. He runs a 4.5 and at 6'0" can dunk a basketball.

Price will not be as recognized as others in this class like Braxton Miller, Doran Grant, Michael Bennett, etc, but it goes without saying that Price is a great addition as the class comes to a close. He should fill in nicely when his time comes as another LB in Ohio State's very storied LB tradition. I don't see Price as an impact player next year due to depth at the position, but he could see time on special teams...or could take a red-shirt year.

Beyond the fact that Price is a top PA prospect, the ability of Ohio State lock up another great player from the state of PA and out recruit Pitt and PSU in their own back yard adds more salt to the open wound that has been created as the top PA guys have committed to tOSU over the past 5 years or so.

Despite there not being much word surrounding Price's recruitment, most Ohio State insiders have felt we have been in the lead for some time. Many thought that he would give his word before the season, but he took the opportunity to look around a little bit more. It is a great feeling to have a kid in the fold that wants to do the things the right way and not hog the spotlight. Price has been sorta old school in a Woody Hayes type way.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Pennsylvania LB Ejuan Price became the 21st oral commitment in Ohio State's 2011 recruiting class with a pledge Monday reported by several recruiting Web sites.

Price, from Pittsburgh Woodland Hills, is the third linebacker in the class and chose the Buckeyes over Iowa and Rutgers. A 6-0, 235 pounder, Price is rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and the No. 19 prospect in Pennsylvania.

Ohio State still has a handful of scholarships available for this class, with National Signing Day just over two weeks away, on Feb. 2.

So far, based on the average rating of oral commitments, Rivals has Ohio State ranked as the No. 12 recruiting class in the country and second in the Big Ten behind Nebraska.

Ejuan Price Follows Cousin to Ohio State | Our Honor Defend

ejuan-price-dorian-bell.jpg

I missed the commitment of Doran Grant on here while I was in New Orleans, but I'm grateful not to miss Ohio State's newest addition. Ejuan Price, a linebacker from Woodland Hills, PA, committed to the Buckeyes this evening. He will follow his cousin Dorian Bell to Ohio State. So, yes, the Price is right for Ohio State, or Ohio State is right for Price. That should do it for Price is Right puns for this post. Moving forward.

A recruiting class that I thought would be very light on linebackers now has three. Ohio State picked up the first linebacker in 2011's class with Conner Crowell's commitment. It added another by the welcomed second retirement of Urban Meyer from Gainesville, rerouting Under Armour All-American Ryan Shazier to Columbus for winter quarter. Further, Ohio State may not be done. It still has irons in the fire for Curtis Grant and Stanford commitment James Vaughters, whose future head coach and position coach bolted for the 49ers.

With all that in mind, the commitment of Price is notable because Ohio State never wavered in its interest in Price. Even when I thought he might look elsewhere (namely Iowa) because of other interest in the likes of Grant, Shazier, Wallace and more, Ohio State remained in contact. While the process dragged out, Price nevertheless knew a week ago that Ohio State is where he wanted to be.

"I basically knew since last Wednesday," Price said.

Both Jim Tressel and Luke Fickell made the trip to Pittsburgh to pay Price a visit for an in-home trip but it seemed as if there was very little suspense involved with this visit.

"The visit was cool but they already knew for real though," Price joked.

Price is expected to factor into the WILL linebacker picture, much like Dorian Bell.

I do not know what the commitment of Price means for Ohio State?s chances with Curtis Grant, who would be a real nice addition to this class. Nevertheless, Price?s commitment is important because he is undervalued. I think Ohio State?s coaching staff knows that too, which is why they never lost interest in him. Film is below.

Catching Up with Ejuan Price

  • By Alex - 23 January 2011 |
Ejuan-Price.jpg

The Buckeyes recruiting class was sitting at 20 solid commitments heading into this week with just five or six players left on the board that could live up to the caliber of talent Jim Tressel had already secured for the class of 2011. Ejuan Price was one of those players and decided to become the 21st member to hop on the Scarlet and Gray train earlier this week, making his commitment to Ohio State known to the public shortly after his in-home visit with The Vest and Luke Fickell.
Price, a 6-0/235 linebacker from Pittsburgh, is the third linebacker in a class that was in danger of having zero players at the position a few months back. Displaying excellent closing speed, great tackling ability, and a knack for finding the ball, Price is a great fit for Ohio State on the field. Off the field, he already knows something about the Buckeye family, as he is cousins with Dorian Bell and has taken numerous visits to Columbus throughout his recruitment.
We were fortunate enough to sit down with the newest member of the Buckeye family to discuss how it feels to finally end his recruitment, find out why he chose Ohio State, discover what he expects in year one in Columbus, and much, much more.

What was the biggest deciding factor in your decision? Was it OSU the whole way or were you thinking you'd be somewhere else for a while?
It was probably just Coach Fickell himself as the biggest factor. It was close between them [OSU] and a couple of other schools, but that's kind of always where I figured I'd go.

What is your relationship like with Coach Fickell and how did that impact your decision?
Well he's my main recruiter so our relationship is very good. If he wasn't at Ohio State, I probably wouldn't have went there.
Thank you Coach F.
