I agree, we want this to be a place that we would be proud of if recruits or players were visiting. I have been guilty of making some comments about Lydell Ross in the past that were not very intelligent. I think you are totally right, these guys are young kids and they will make foolish mistakes.Oh8ch said:

This isn't about physical stuff, it's about mental stuff...attitude, and in a sense, character.
So, defend your buddy. I'm guessing he may be one hellava player and friend. All I'm saying is: he, in this case didn't think of the TEAM. By not practicing, he hurts the TEAM. Last I checked, football is still a TEAM sport. And, the timing of having one more negative thing to print and say about the Buckeyes just plays into some media agendas.
Now you and he can answer this question: Is that stupid or not?

He's still only 20 years old, though. I just think it's kinda crude to be piling on this kid who doesn't deserve it. We put ourselves on pedestals and think "oh, man, we'd never do anything like that", but if you think back to being 20 years old, I'm sure you did some stupid shit. I still do stupid shit that I regret all the time, and I'm 22. So I just think it's not the time or place to be piling on this kid.
It wasn't a great decision to make but I tried to give you some insight to what happened. He has a new (well, new to him) car and I don't think he cared about his old one, so he didn't care if it was impounded. He hasn't tried to get it out even though he has the money, so obviously it doesn't mater to him. Maybe he didn't realize that even if the car is impounded, you still have to pay them. I don't know.
I mean, clearly, the MoC stuff has affected everyone wayyyyyyyyy too much. As BrutusBobcat said to me -- "A few years ago, we'd be like tickets? Who cares?"

Savante: Like I said, it's loyal and darn good of you to defend your friend. Yes, at 20 yrs old the world looks much different than at my age. For 18 and 19-year olds at Camp Pendleton, which is a stone's throw from my house, the Iraq war has given them, and for many their families, one hellava short time to grow up. As we see everyday in the media, far too many of them will never again see a football game, let alone play in one. Let me tell you, these young Marines are TEAM players every moment of their lives. None would think of letting their TEAM down.
Dramatic? Not if you are 18-years old in combat. I don't see much difference between these young men and you young men. Just a much different setting.
So, when you say don't pile on, don't be too harsh, give the kid a break, cut some slack...it has a hollow ring to it.
You can castigate me for being to harsh on a friend. Doesn't bother me. My sincere Buckeye response to you is this: Life is a zero sum game. Seems like a small thing to you and other posters, but, some day, you'll get it.

Hey now, Mr. Maupin has made an error in judgement but it's not a "horrible mistake" or as serious as a marine in war.
It's his first time in the dog-house publicly, let him take his medicine, pay for the mistake and return to the team. Maybe he's back for spring practice in a few months.
We get to comment on it but it's for his teammates and coaches to judge.

maybe this question has been asked, so at the risk of being redundant.....how does this effect brandon underwood? i though i read in some earlier posts that he was developing an attitude, possibly due to the situation his brother is in. anybody have an info on his status?
as far as maupin goes...i sure hope he makes things right and gets back on the field, sounds like a huge upside.

Always hate to see these guys leave, especially in light of the new apr crap. Tho I think Tressel's emphasis on education will pay off even if we have not been able to avoid the other suspensions. We should still be projected for a 75% graduation rate with those three losses based on the estimate statistically that I broke down a few days ago on here.

My thoughts exactly, "Lights out" is an absolute terror at safety and strikes fear into opposing offenses. And I remember seeing Everett line up at corner a decent bit last year and hold his own. Plus he looks like he has the size to be a very physical corner, which is a huge asset since Youboty, Welch, O'Neal and others aren't quite as large.
