Ebola confirmed in the US

Spain Warns "Something Went Wrong" As Suspected Ebola Cases Rise In Madrid
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-...-went-wrong-suspected-ebola-cases-rise-madrid

Spanish health officials have 4 patients interned including infected initial nurse, her husband, and a 2nd nurse (male). Furthermore, 22 more possible Ebola cases are under surveillance having had direct contact with the infected nurse during her vacation after being infected (officials have said they 'don't know' how she became infected with the deadly virus).

"At the moment we are investigating the way in which the professional was infected," said Antonio Alemany, the head of Madrid's primary health care services.

"We don't know yet what failed,"
he was quoted by the Guardian as saying. "We're investigating the mechanism of infection."

Apparently Thomas eric Duncan has passed.

This might belong in the dumb question thread, but what is it about that region of Africa that creates such viruses? I know that it is equatorial and impoverished, but isn't that also true in Central and South America?

Proximity to deep forests. Places that, until recently have not been visited very much. Deforestation may be "helping' the virus spread. And wars had decimated the medical systems in those countries. The article above gives the best explanation. A lot of bad medical practices like reusing needles have made it worse. Stuff that is SOP in most countries.

And again more people are dying in this country of enterovirus. But Fox News isn't trying to link it to #Benghazi. Obviously, having your eyes bleed is much scarier than flu like symptoms that kill you.

I was unable to read the article due to not subscribing. Correct me if I am wrong, didn't one of them actually die from a staph infection?

Yep, Fox News is not reporting on the scary flu-like virus, but CNN is reporting on that little airplane we are still missing. I mean that is way more important than a possible zombie apocalypse, right?

This is headed for the political forum...quickly...which would be a shame because it is a topic that everyone should be able to talk about. Up to you all if it stays that way though.

None of what you mentioned isn't also true in Central/South America.

The ebola virus is endemic to some of the animals in that area, fruit bats, etc. It doesn't harm the animals. It jumps to humans every once in awhile when an infected animal bits a human, gets eaten (bushmeat), etc.

This. The demand for food has pushed many to eat whatever they can find. That includes animals carrying disease. Combine that with a lack of doctors and wars and you have the perfect storm. This will be a continuing story. Millions will become vulnerable and die.
