I went out there on the assumption that New Mexico=desert, something akin to Arizona. The mountains and cold of the area came as a shock to me. I suppose an outdoorsman or retired person would like the area. I wish I got to work on something as exciting as atomic energy and it's friend but my work was much more mundane.

Northen New Mexico is [SIZE=-1]mountainous, cold, and rugged. It's much diffrent than the stereotype anyone outside of New Mexico would have the state. I had no idea one could ski in New Mexico before I lived there. Taos as I understand is where rich hollywood, ex-californians, hippies, and retired folks set up shop.

I wouldn't describe where I live as "cold"!
In fact, because of generally low humidity and on average 300 days of sunshine things are very "pleasant" here!

Got my season pass to Taos Ski Valley! Now, all I need is some good snow.

New Mexico was colder than Ohio in the summer when I was there. You're right that humidity is better. If I had a Range Rover, a trust fund, and plenty of free time I'd make a living hitting up the milfs out in Taos.

Taos does have it's celebrates!
Saw "Julia" in the supermarket a couple months ago.
And I frequently see Dean Stockwell skulking around.
Our friend saw Robert Redford at the local auditorium last week.
Taosenos leave these people alone!
That's why they like it here.

Taos is "unique"!
It's a small town.........7000 pop.
With a small town warmth.
But, has had a "art colony" since the 20's.
And yes, there are Range Rovers and "Trustifarians", here.
But, at it's core, Taos is a tri-cultural community.
And yes, we have a "hippie' community/culture.
And "alternative lifestyle" people.
And outdoors people.
And yes, there are many retirees here.
But, we all get along pretty well!
