Earl Campbell (speaking his mind ... what's left of it)

I’m sorry, but what’s the difference? Racism knows no color...

If you really want to delve into it, there is a difference between prejudice and racism. Earl Campbell is certainly prejudiced, but until he and blacks in general hold the systemic power to control whites and deprive them of opportunity (such as the right to play quarterback), it's technically not racism. And non-whites can certainly be racist. There's a reason that every country that borders China loathes them and has long feared their rise. That's all I'm going to say on the issue because it's gone too poliforum as it is.

Fuck Texas.

I don't think it's racism to be honest. Racially ignorant? Yes. One individual, who may or may not have cognitive disabilities, holding a racially ignorant viewpoint and saying something stupid. Actual institutional and cultural racism would be something more akin to blacks not being allowed to play quarterback for generations because it was the widely held and unquestioned belief that they didn't have the mental ability to so. That's racism.

I'm assuming this will get split off since it's such a sensitive topic but that's ok. Racism is always rooted in ignorance. Institutional racism isn't the only form of racism. His comments reflect a certain prejudice. Is it harmful or vicious? No. Doesn't negate it from being racist. Imagine if Archie Manning said Ole Miss should only recruit white QB's because they're smarter. He'd get crucified by the media

I think we agree on the difference between racism and prejudice. I also agree with you that the firestorm would be much more intense under your Archie Manning scenario. Then again, that would actually directly reference a terrible time when blacks literally weren't allowed to play QB.

altering the definition to fit a political narrative doesnt actually change what is happening. Your definition of racism is a relatively new one used primarily in university sociology programs. As someone raising mixed race kids; pretending only certain races of people can be racist... is racist.

You ain't joking. The manner in which different Latin American countries view and voice their thoughts on others within the region is unreal.
It's like the different sections of the United States and how there's belitting, but with real sentiment.
