that same day at the same house a kid was beaten by grove city cops who were deputized by the franklin county sheriffs. i dont exactly know the whole situation but ive seen about a 2 min video clip of the kid asking to see the badges then getting taken down, eventually laying on the ground gettin his ass kicked by three grown men who drag him out the door. i saw the day after pictures of this kid, it was unreal for anything.

Allowing Grove City cops to patrol campus is absolutely criminally negligent on the part of the city. Your post only confirms that they viewed it as a chance to kick some "college boy" ass rather than do their frickin' jobs. I hope that kids family went to court over the beating. Somebody needs to enlighten Grovetucky's finest about the fourth amendment and the need for a search warrant before entering private property.

I seriously doubt that Gee will put up with small town redneck cops being brought to campus to harass and beat students.

Is somebody at The Blade reading this thread? Three hours after posting that they don't have the stones to print my criticism of their editorial, somebody calls me to confirm that I wrote and stand by the letter. We'll see tomorrow.

Evidently they are slow readers.

Ought to ask them if they go to work using the special company transportation.

The Toledo Blade's history of bitterness towards Ohio State has finally hit rock bottom with this morning's editorial on Gee's return. They even take a swipe at his alma mater (Utah), never mind the fact that it ranks higher than Bowling Green or UT.

Their hypocrisy is mind numbing. On one hand, they attack Gee for his salary while attempting to hide behind the interests of Ohio's taxpayers, yet they constantly trumpet inefficient, bloated and unnecessary policies that benefit BGSU and UT. Those policies cost Ohio taxpayers far more money and contribute far greater to high tuition costs than if we had chose to give Gee a 10 million dollar salary.

toledoblade.com -- The million-dollar man

I smell fear. They know that, with a dynamic and politically astute leader at Ohio State, Fingerhut and Stickland's changes to this bloated university system are only that much more likely to succeed.

This statement absolutely amazes me: "If Mr. Gee is in demand as a college president, it's worth noting that he wasn't exactly a standout academic. He has a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Utah and a law degree and doctorate in education from Columbia. But he has left no stunning intellectual treatise to measure him by, though by all accounts he was popular with OSU students, faculty, and state legislators."

Whatever "a stunning intellectual treatise" is, I wouldn't call a guy with a J.D. and a Ph.D from Columbia a guy who "wasn't exactly a standout academic" . . . especially when Warren Burger deemed him bright enough to serve as a law clerk for him.

Also, I hate it when "journalists" project their own pathologies onto others like this: "It's apparent that the OSU trustees had another reason for recruiting Mr. Gee: pride. Ohio State was stunned when he left for Brown, so there was a strong desire to show OSU is good enough to get him back."

Allow me to act like a journalist and translate that: "It's apparent that the members of the Blades' editorial board had another reason for taking their cheating wives back: pride. They were stunned when they left for smarter, wealthier, better-endowed, more high-powered men so even though those men dumped them when they got fat and old and starting smoking crystal meth there was a strong desire to show that they were good enough to get them back . . ."

Plus, he "has written or co-written eight books, including Information Literacy: Revolution in the Library, which won the American Library Association's G.K. Hall Award in 1990 for outstanding contribution to library literature." Not too shabby. I didn't realize he has written in the library field.

The Other Paper

Interesting article on Wexner's role in bringing Gee back. Combined with the article on higher education Chancellor Eric Fingerhut personally lobbying him to come back with a one hour phone call, one starts to understand the pathetic fear running through the veins of the publishers and editors of the Toledo Blade--the wealthiest, most powerful private citizen in the state and the most powerful higher education chancellor in the state's history both begging Gee to come back. In Chicago terminology, Gee's got some serious clout! Now, it's time to deliver for Ohio State.

This may be the wrong place for this, I guess. I am simply referring to the amount of clout that Les Wexner throws around. I worked a private party at his house once while working for Parking Solutions, as I'm sure many others before me have, possibly BP members. Anywho, there is a Christian radio tower you can see plain as day out of his backyard, with a giant lit up cross on it. The word was always that Wexner offered them an insane amount of money to simply take the cross down, and it probably still hangs there to this day.

Surprised this hasn't been posted, but the wife and I attended the (re)introduction of E Gordon Gee at the skull session Saturday morning, and he received a standing O. His first comments were that he was standing in the tunnel of St Johns hearing the percussion section lead the band down the hall into the arena, and he was fighting back tears just thinking about the band.

He was further interviewed today on 1460 by Hooley, and responded that he would not be the "OSU Tailgating Gestapo." He waffled a bit on whether this meant the would repeal or continue Holbrook's policies, but he offered that he went tailgating himself, met fans and saw that most of the "real" tailgaters were responsible adults wanting to enjoy a family friendly atmosphere, and concluded by saying, for the first time, even through his entire first administration, he enjoyed a game from C Deck sitting with other fans.

Came across as sounding as though he really missed it.

Also mentioned that the Block O slacks/game day sweatpants would be returning. :)

EDIT: Oh, and having been at Vanderbilt, he really hates Florida.
