How much of a meltdown will this board have if they hire a new coach and he cleans out the entire staff...

sans Bollman.

Honestly now, a head coach should be able to hire his choice of assistant coaches; and unfortunately for Fickell, he wasn't afforded that opportunity. No matter how good (or bad) the head coach potentially may be, his actual results (i.e. team's results) will only as good as his assistants.

Hopefully he recognizes that there is a lot of good coaching talent there, just that some under performers are dragging everyone down. If it is Urban, he does have Drayton to give him an insiders perspective.

On a related note, was Fickell calling the defensive plays in recent history, and is he now? The defensive play calling seems different and more passive this year, and our meltdowns on the defensive side remind me of those from 06 and 07.

Coach F:

Thanks for all the work you did this year holding together the team and this program during one of its toughest times. I am glad the administration made the decision to have you as the head coach. I speak only for myself as an alum, but I hope you stay on staff and continue to grow as a coach and are ready to become the permanent head coach of The Ohio State University down the road.

OSU is not a HC training program. We are an elite CFB program that should have a top 5 coach. Not Jim Tressel's Friends and Family Plan.

Clean house ASAP. Start over. Beat Michigan and win a tinfoil bowl.

A tad blunt, but I agree.

If the rumors are true that Meyer is frustrated by coaching staff instability, then there's a strong possibility that a number of staff members on defense would be retained -- Fickell and Vrabel are obviously Buckeyes, and would likely stay for as long as they're wanted. Paul Haynes is a local Columbus guy, and someone who I also think would stay for a long time.

It would be nice to see some staff carried over, and I think that Luke has a terrific future in coaching, preferably here. Vrabel is a little harder to evaluate, and I think Haynes has also been solid and seems to be a good recruiter.

Whoever gets the HC job (last I checked, no one has been hired) needs to have the freedom to retain/replace anyone on the staff. It needs to be their decision, not dictated to them.

After refusing comment on the Urban Meyer situation, Luke was again asked if he has been told of any decision:

"I've been told there's a game at noon on Saturday. And my ass will be there."

That's badass. I really hope he stays on as assistant HC, learns from one of the best, and we'll be set for years to come.

Was Tim May the recipient of that zinger?
