I'll wait on this until I hear it from Luke. Because it would not surprise me if he gets an offer to be a head coach another school in the next couple months.

But if Luke wants this, and decides to stay, then that is a big positive in my opinion.

I was thinking if Butch Jones left, UC would be a great place for Coach Fickell if he wanted a head job (outside of having a small stadium).

I'm glad he stayed. Hope he can build the defense. Gosh only knows he has one million less distractions next season.

With a couple years under Urban Meyer, Luke Fickell will be handed the keys to a top program. I hope that he sticks around for the duration of Urban Meyer and then becomes the next Ohio State coach.

Many thanks for your sacrifices and service this year, Coach Fickell.

Having the knowledge from familiarity with the Meyer offense will be good for a guy who is known for his defensive skills. IOW, he can legitimately say that he knows it, is familiar with it, and will hire an OC who knows how to run it. That is a resume boosting type deal. While that will not make him an offensive master mind, it sure should make an interviewing AD more warm and fuzzy to think that he/she is getting a well rounded package with a tremendous grounding in two styles of play, Tresselball and Urban warfare.

I am just throwing this out there, but this is a thought:

The big rumor (or arguably partially confirmed during the conference) is that Urban wanted to know how to balance his life more between football and family, and the answer was to lean on the coordinators more.

Now, Urban has the advantage of having a senior, passionate Buckeye coach with 1 year as HC and another 9 on staff to lean on. I think this will play out to be monumental in the future. Urban gets to put weight on Fickell and groom him to do what he needs to do, which will benefit both Urban and Fickell.

Very good days ahead for OSU!

Does it seem at all like Ohio State or Coach Meyer is grooming Luke Fickell to take over?

During the press conference, Meyer said Coach Fickell will have input on the new assistant coaches.

I don't know why, but it seems like Fickell is on deck or something.
