Bingo, and they were a huge rival of ours. That's a good reason to have a dislike. Duke has never been a rival, rarely been overrated until this year, and had a good crew of players and coaches minus Leattner.

Anyone can hate any team they want. Their reason does not have to be justifiable in your eyes. I guess Duke just rubs a lot people the wrong way, on top of the media love for them, it adds to a strong dislike.

Ok, you might want to be more descriptive before you make a comment like that. For one, yes they are the same when it comes to media love. We have no disagreement there. Second, they constantly play to their rank, until this year came around. Third, Coach K is 5X the coach any of ND's football coaches have been in decades.

Obviously there are some differences. I am referring to the fact that not matter how good or bad they are they will receive ridiculous amounts attention and are liked by very few people everywhere.

Nope, actually I don't like them at all. I just don't hate them. Also, jwins is the only one right now who is debating with any sense.

I'm not sure that they are liked by very few people. I don't think you have any facts to back that up. I agree with the first 75% of your post though.

Maybe it is where I live, but I know that most people around here are in a love/hate relationship with Duke, and that usually ends up with a lot of hate.

Duke's yankee-like domination of ESPN/2 is quite annoying.

In 05, duke had 33 regular season games. 26 of those were on national TV. Doesn't that seem a tad bit excessive? Do we really need national coverage of Duke - Pennsylvania?

As far as NoD comparisons, Brent Musberger does not break into a golden-homer story every time he appears on ABC/ESPN like Mr. Vitale.

I think they are disliked by most average basketball fans. The fact that they are also liked by quite a few is a separate point, imo. (Similar to ND)

I think it's quite possible to hate Duke with a passion while still respecting their track record and ability. I don't find that to be the case with ND, unless you are talking all-time tradition.

Most of the people I know have enjoyed watching them play for years because of their up-tempo gameplan and good coaching. Some had a love/hate, but no more than the next team. Again, I'll use the ND football as an example. ND has begged America to hate them with their consistent underperforming and cocky coaching, one thing Duke hasn't had until this year and one thing Duke just hasn't had period.

I respect their coach and what he has done in making them good college BB players and that is about it. The players almost always flop in the NBA, their fans are particularly annoying and ESPN/Dickie V always over hypes them. I enjoy watching them lose as many games as possible.

I totally agree with this...

The thing that I truly hate is the calls that Dook seems to get, and uneeded attention, kinda like the 30 second comercials that coach K gets during the tourney...

I cannot however not respect a program that does nothing but win, don't cheat, and just continue to do it over a continued period fo time...

It is times like these that I hate being out of rep, hopefully I remember this thread when I have rep to give...
