Duke Blue Devils (that rat faced scumbag)

I've listened to Coach K at a clinic, I've watched them incessently, considering where I live. I cannot hate the school or the coach or the fans. Always clean, amazing recruiting, and unbelieveable player development. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing them lose when they do, but, if there's a better run college basketball program, show me where. I really think Thad can do the same thing at tOSU, and he's on the way to doing just that. If you want a model, I can't think of a better one.

1) National sports announcers should never openly cheer a team on.
2) You state how they always win....after an article about them getting a bullshit call. Connection?
3) Their kids are very well spoken. I liked when Reddick spoke the words "Get the fuck out of my face" at the BC player.
4) The students are neurotic and annoying. Ever been around a Dook fan? Of course you have because they have bandwagoners all over. What I mean is, ever been around a student that actually goes to the games? They make Penn State fans seem intelligent.
Quite a rant there BN... Too bad none of it is unbiased...
Let's face it guys, people hate Duke because they are good. Year in and year out they win. When you win, you breed haters. That's why a lot of people hate tOSU football. They say the same things about our football team that BN27 just said about Duke basketball. Almost word for word.
I like Duke, been a Duke basketball fan since I was 6. Everyone with a complaint about the refs and Duke getting the calls should read this article. I find it to be pretty good.

but you are biased as well and i share no dislike towards the USC football program or nebraska or florida when they were good. i never had a problem with kansas, uconn, or UNC for the most part. like i said i admire the talent they have, coach K, and their true fans but the fact that they get by way more than others on pure luck and bullshit calls is more than enough to find a way to hate them when they continually win in that manner.

I like UNC, they're good. I like UConn, they're good. I don't mind USC football or Texas football. They're good. I like the Colts, they're good. I rooted for both the Steelers and the Seahawks in the SuperBowl. They were good.

Being good isn't why people hate Dook. It's being good while getting all the bullshit calls to go in their favor, having the announcers suck their dicks, and having the neurotic fanbase that they do.

I was watching UConn this weekend and they were playing really well. Then they had a few calls go against them and momentum shifted. This NEVER happens to Dook. And there is no way that they are just that much better than everybody else to the point where they never make mistakes.

And calling me biased, then referring people to a site called dukebasketballreport.com is kind of hypocritical.

From the AP:
(Greensboro, NC) Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford announced today that a foul is tentatively scheduled to be called against Duke sometime in the first half of their game with UNC in Chapel Hill, next Tuesday, February 7th.

In a joint press conference with Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski, and ACC Director of Officials John Clougherty, Swofford said an agreement had been reached for a touch foul to be whistled on as-yet-to-be-determined Blue Devil player around the 7:00 minute mark during the first half of the game at the Smith Center.

"We are very excited to arrange something that hasn't been seen in our conference since 1998," said Swofford. "I want to personally commend Mike {Krzyzewski} for agreeing to this uncoventional deal. We all know how reluctant he has been to allow any calls to go against his team."

Krzyzewski insisted that this move was purely a gesture of generosity aimed at rehabilitating his public image in light of recent lip-synching fiascos during several nationally televised games. "The camera did not catch me really uttering the BS-word during my argument with the official the other night. Those really were my lips moving but I wasn't really yelling the word. I'm sure our fans will understand."

"Mike is being a really good sport about this," noted UNC coach Roy Williams. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to play them with a foul being called against their squad, and to have it happen here in front of the home crowd will be especially enjoyable for our fans."

Clougherty says that unless unforeseen intimidation happens during the game, that the scheduled foul should occur without a hitch. "It all depends on whether Coach K holds up his end of the bargain and promises not to harass our crew that evening."

Clougherty also said not to expect any more fouls to be called against Duke this season, but did not rule out the possibility of another one being called in an exhibition game in November 2006. "The Duke AD told me that they are trying to schedule Marathon Oil for a pre-season game next year and we are in discussions about perhaps calling another foul against Duke in that match-up if everyone can come to terms."

The officiating crew for the Duke vs. UNC game will not be announced publicly prior to the game in order to protect their privacy. Swofford said he anticipated a media barrage and did not want the referees to be distracted from their big task at hand. "This is a big deal and a momentous occasion for the league. We need our employees to remain focused so that they can complete their jobs in what could end up being a very difficult situation."

Game Notes: If the foul occurs on February 7th, it will be the 27th foul called against the Blue Devils in their basketball history...........Dick Vitale and Mike Patrick will be handling the TV play by play for ESPN. Vitale says he has no idea what he will say when the foul is called against Duke but he has been placed on a prescription sedative as a preventive measure. (Patrick could not be reached for comment, and was last seen entering a tanning salon in Durham with a picture of JJ Redick)......... A CBS 60 Minutes television crew is planning to attend the game to catch the event on tape for an upcoming expose on the Duke Basketball program and how Mike Krzyzewski uses friendships and loyalty to advance his own agenda.

Now that is some funny stuff.

I think the main reason why people hate Dook, is b/c the media shoves it down our throats. I respect teams that win, well besides the Yankees b/c all they do is buy their wins with all the money they have. Dook is a lot like Notre Lame in football where the media wants to bend over backwards just to get in a word about them.

Did you watch the Georgetown game? They got a lot of calls go against them in that one...
Fact is, there are always calls during the games (any game) that fans can complain about and say were unfair. I'm a UD alum, and most of us feel that Xavier gets a lot of calls as well. But there are always plenty of what-ifs. Duke just gets it over-exaggerrated because they are always top-5 and get a lot of exposure. Also so-called "Dukie-V" has been all over UNC's jock the last couple of years as well. He loves Roy Williams and was just going on non-stop about UNC's great recruiting efforts the past couple of years. Dickie V. is an avid ACC supporter, not just Duke. Is he a homer because he always picks Duke to be good? If so, then both the polls would be homers then too...
BTW... The website dukebasketballreport I thought was a pretty logical explanation that provided facts. That's why I linked it. Sure it may be written by a Duke fan, but at least it is written with a cool head and provides facts.

I guess I don't see the hatred for Duke that so many have. They win the right way, with good kids who graduate.

Their coach seems to be a class individual who gets the most out of his players all while playing a "team" game.

So what if the media is "in love" with them, why wouldn't they be? Great fans, good team, academically exceptional athletes, with a great coach.

Sports fans are jealous by nature and hate seeing one team with so much success but I don't see people complaining when Ohio State is on National Television every week and getting in BCS games over teams who may have a better record than us.

Just my opinion.

I'm with you Thump.

Duke is a wonderful university with a wonderful coach and history.
