Tigers eye out-of-state linemen

<!-- begin body-content --> A PAIR OF out-of-state lineman have become major targets for Clemson this recruiting season. Offensive linemen Landon Walker (6-foot-7, 269 pounds) of Ronda, N.C., and Ryan Pugh (6-3, 275) of Hoover, Ala., are high on Clemson’s board.
Walker is a tackle whose father played for the Tigers in the early ’80s. He also has offers from N.C. State, North Carolina, East Carolina and Wake Forest.
Walker is expected to make an unofficial visit to Clemson this week. He has been to N.C. State several times, including the Wolfpack’s spring game. He also visited North Carolina, where he sat in on an offensive line meeting during spring practice. Walker plans to make a decision within the next two weeks.
Pugh is a center, and his father said Clemson is very strong on him.
“I think he’s the center they want,” said Toney Pugh, who is an assistant coach for his son’s high school team. “We went up for a visit last season, and he really enjoyed the visit.”
Pugh’s top schools are Clemson, Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, Louisville and Oregon. Pugh will attend the combine at Clemson on Sunday and will stay over an extra day to visit the school.
A parade of coaches either has been in or will be in to see Lake City linebacker Scotty Cooper (6-1, 200). Clemson’s Tommy Bowden, USC’s Steve Spurrier, Tennessee’s Phillip Fulmer, West Virginia’s Rich Rodriguez and N.C. State’s Chuck Amato have scheduled visits. Cooper said last week he remains open. He plans to attend one-day camps at both USC and Clemson this summer and to take several unofficial visits.
North Carolina leads for defensive end Wes Saunders (6-5, 270) of Durham, N.C., over Clemson and Wake Forest. Saunders also has offers from USC, Louisville, East Carolina and N.C. State.
Defensive lineman Kerry Murphy (6-4, 323) of Hoover, Ala., has an offer from Clemson and plans to be at the combine this Sunday. Murphy favors Alabama ahead of Auburn and Mississippi.
Byrnes linebacker Stanley Hunter (6-0, 205) landed offers from USC and Virginia Tech last week. Hunter also has offers from Clemson and North Carolina.
USC has interest in quarterback Robert Marve (6-2, 195) of Tampa, Fla., and has invited him for camp this summer. USC recruiter David Reaves visited Marve last week.
He has offers from Mississippi State, Kansas, South Florida, Connecticut, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Buffalo and Florida State.
Tight end Brian Linthicum (6-5, 225) of Charlottesville, Va., has been offered by Clemson and he plans to visit this month or in early June. Linthicum has offers from Boston College, Michigan State, Connecticut and Syracuse.
Sumter offensive lineman Kyle Nunn (6-6, 280) has an offer from N.C. State but believes Clemson, Virginia Tech and Auburn will offer him when he atttends their camps. Coaches from those three visited his school last week. Nunn will attend the Clemson combine this Sunday.
Clemson has offered defensive lineman Ted Laurent (6-1, 290) of Powder Springs, Ga. Laurent committed to Mississippi in April but has picked up offers from LSU, Auburn and Tennessee.
Offensive lineman Evan Blankenship (6-4, 310) of Monaca, Pa., made a recent unofficial visit to Clemson and plans to come back down this summer. He has offers from Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Temple.
Clemson remains interested in Spring Valley offensive lineman Kyle Fisher (6-6, 285). He will attend Sunday’s combine and has been invited for a summer day camp. Fisher has offers from Vanderbilt, East Carolina and N.C. State.
Clemson and USC have offered running back Jonathan Dwyer (6-0, 205) of Marietta, Ga. He has offers from Georgia, Florida, Georgia Tech, Hawaii, Tennessee, Michigan State and Auburn. He does not have a favorite.

From the Pitt site...coaches from State, Michigan, Boston College, Cincinnati and Maryland were at Evan's high school on Wednesday. He plans to visit OSU and ND for sure, as well as possibly Pitt, Boston College and Maryland.

As I mentioned early on in this thread I have a bit of a family connection to Evan. Well....a close relative of mine was with Evan last night and just called me with an update.

I was told he was in OSU gear and that he is really pumped about OSU.

Out of respect to Evan I won't divulge the details (this is his story to tell, not mine) but I will summarize and say it looks REALLY, REALLY good for OSU.

Also he has absolutely NOT verballed (as we all already knew...but Evan was aware that ESPN message boards jumped the gun).

This isn't done...Evan is a smart kid with good people around him and he will find the place that is best for him. However, I think it might be time to start warming up the bananas.....it was a VERY pro OSU discussion.

The rest of the update was that he is just a GREAT kid...respectful of the opportunity and really has a good head on his shoulders. Oh, and that he is freakin' massive!
