DT/OL Evan Blankenship (Official Thread)

Last week Evan broke his foot. This past season in track, Evan partially broke it and didn't really notice it until last week when he went running and twisted it and heard a crack. He tried to get up and couldn't walk. Monday he is going to Columbus to get it looked at though to get it checked out and then to get surgery. He says the cast will be off in time for Youngstown State, but hopes he can still dress and practice before.

Can you actually do that? That doesn't sound right. If it is just a hairline fracture, there will be considerable swelling to go with. (I know :(). I think he must've actually broken it when he twisted it during running.

You're probably right about there being a hairline fracture, but didn't think there was enough pain/swelling to warrant a break. Back in high school my buddy did something like this before. Got hit by a pitch in his arm one game, next game he swung a bat and completely broke it, heard the loud crack as well.

I just didn't realize that hairline fractures could go undetected. But on the other hand, I shouldn't be surprised because I jumped off the roof of my house on a dare, (:biggrin::biggrin:) and landed on my feet, and got a hairline fracture. HURT LIKE HELL. I thought I would never walk for sure. My point is that he probably did something far less stupid than that to get the fracture. But sounds like it isn't a big deal. Hope he gets better soon.

Hairline fractures can easily go undetected, especially for those who are used to sports aches and pains, and there may be minimal swelling (which may go unnoticed if you're already 6'3", 300lbs). The good news is, hairline fractures, especially in young people, can heal quickly with a little rest - sometimes much moreso than a sprain and with less recovery lag time.

Evan went into surgery yesterday at the University East hospital in Columbus. Right now from his knee down he is completely numb. He said the surgery went very well, but cannot remember most of it because of the anesthetics. The doctors said once the feeling comes back he will be in some pain, and that he cannot put pressure on it for a week. He is back home now though and is resting it.

Did Evan give you permission to reveal his medical information?
