would be an interesting poll to see what people think that Luke has to do in order to keep job after '11

my guess 9 wins, or 8 wins if we beat scUM and they are 8+ win team

in addition i think he needs to show that he is building a strong recruiting class (given circumstances) by the time decision time comes around

I would love to see Luke have interim tag removed. Not sure that he is the guy (yet) but there is no reason he can't be.

examples of guys in 1st head coaching job off the top of my head....

I'd say he has to do the following (in order of importance):
1. 0 infractions. Not even a sniff of an infraction. I know it is completely unfair to Fickell, but that's how it is with the current NCAA and Ohio State relationship.
2. 8 wins.
3. At least be competitive against Michigan. In fact, I think that Ohio State has better personnel, so they SHOULD win the game. But that may be asking too much of a first-year head coach.

The last time I checked on the official website, he didn't have "interim" in his title. Just "Head Coach".

LMAO! The Dispatch is complaining/criticizing today that LF hasn't called a Press Conference yet. They're calling it a Huge PR Mistake!

If I were LF, my first Presser would be on the Monday before the Opener.

Let 'em all file the information requests for the emails & phone calls; put him under 24/7 surveillance, add innuendo and write their stories.

Ooops - forgot - that's already the way they generate their "news" now!

Last time we called a news conference without letting all of the facts come out, we got burned. Fickell is smart to wait it out before saying anything the hungry press.

He's had two weeks of media training (probably consultation with university attorneys as well). Hope this goes well.

Whatever happens, do not allow President Gee to say anything about job security.

I don't think it is too much to ask for Luke to beat another 1st year head coach at scUM, especially when it's this guy:

I think it will be how he handles everything to be honest.... Sure, wins and loses are important but I think he will be given some slack due to the current circumstances. In saying that though I think he's in a tough spot.
Most of the buckeye fans (myself included) I think instinctively want to see someone proven come in once the year is over. There's no denying that Urban Myer is a more household name then Luke.

I'm rooting for Luke though this year and if we finish this year up strong and win 9+ games I think that'll be enough to maybe give him another few years to show what he can do.

I just don't know how you could have a press conference for Fickell with all of this shit still going down. The media would be completely focused on everything other than a new coach who deserves a lot more respect than what he has been given so far.

That being said, after the amateur hour presser we saw that helped fuel this wildfire I can understand the University's hesitance to do another one. I'm not sure any of this ineptness with the media would have happened if Steve Snapp was still around.

Its time to rally people! Coach T is gone and the students showed their support last week as the fans have shown all along. Its coach Ficks time now.

Wether he's in there for 1 season, half a season or he continues on for a decade, its time to rally around him. Right now is the time.

The inuendo and spotting journalism is going to continue until this thing is over, and then its still going to be there. The Buckeye family will perservere and our patriarch right now is Luke Fickell. Stand up and be heard and lets direct our energy now towards supporting the people left on this team and their new leaders.

There is still a huge implication on recruiting right now as well so BuckeyeNation needs to represent in a positive manner. We dont need any chuckleheads out there saying this and that, just circle the wagons and support the family in the right way.

IMHO, Fickell is the key to well the program weathers the storm. I'm actually
surprised that no one has bolted so far, I repeat, so far. Already, there are fans of other programs (TSUN), asking themselves; WTF does it take to turn these kids from OSU?

From watching the Spring Game(?), other than the O-Line, I not at all concerned with this year's team. I don't the defense will miss a beat, Ive heard some say it may be more aggressive. Braxton Miller will be just fine if the line can block.

I think Devin Smith, Curtis Grant, Doran Grant, Bennett, Shazier (SP?) could all bring help.:)

It's nice to know the Dispatch has Luke and tOSU's best interests at heart, as opposed to wanting a chance to fire shots at him and go on a public fishing expedition.
