I can see Fickell leaving to be a HC somewhere, but it seems like it would be more Fickell-like to stay in the midwest. Take over a MAC shool like Miami University, for example.

FAU seems like it would be out of sight, out of mind. You could rot down there and no one would notice.

then if he really learns how to be a HC and has a few great seasons somewhere else, he could possibly end up back at Ohio State or who knows, another Big Ten School...

I think it's nice, just for his self esteem, to be asked to interview. I'll bet that's part of the reason why Urban would have said, sure, man, go ahead and give it a shot.

I can't believe anyone would think Urban would hurt someone's resume or try and force someone out who turns out the type of LBers Fick has since 04.

Does anyone even know WHO is calling plays? Withers is in the booth correct? Isn't that where Herman is too?

We know Heacock was calling the shots a few years ago, even when Luke was HC, why does everyone in Columbus assume the secondary struggling with coverage schemes is the Co-Defensive Coordinators/LB coach fault?

The suggestion that Urban would somehow sabotage a high level coaches resume makes ZERO sense. From recruiting players to attracting new coaches to fill vacancies that are bound to happen.

Luke Fickell’s contract runs through April 2015, and has the following language regarding other coaching jobs:

“Coach agrees that he shall not, under any circumstances, discuss or negotiate directly or indirectly his prospective employment with any other institution of higher learning except between the final day of the regular football season and January 15th of each year in which this agreement is in effect. Coach agrees to provide the Head Coach and Director with written notice prior to engaging in such discussions or negotiations. It is particularly understood that on-going rumors or media reports of such negotiations are damaging to Team morale and recruiting, and therefore the parties expressly agree that time is of the essence as to the provisions of this Section 4.5, and that the same shall be strictly construed.

Coach shall not, under any circumstances accept employment as a coach at any other institution of higher learning or with any professional athletic team, requiring duties prior to the expiration of this agreement, without the prior written approval of the Director.”

Also of note, Fickell has a $30,000 buyout.

He might be a good position coach, but from what I've seen from 2011 on, he is anything but a good coach as a coordinator/HC. Two completely different skill sets between position coach and head coach/coordinator. I think Fickell's future is as a D-line or LB coach and that should pretty much be his ceiling. I also think that he is OK with that.

Oh, wow, I'm sure this will the discussion on this thread and the "what's wrong" thread, but I couldn't disagree more. Today's performance is all about game plan and preparation and adjustment, and the utter lack thereof.
